Shakespeare & Hathaway Season 6 Gets September UK Premiere On U&alibi

by Dave Elliott

Fans of Stratford-upon-Avon’s busiest private investigators have a new batch of mysteries heading their way, as Shakespeare & Hathaway returns for Season 6 on U&alibi this September.

Jo Joyner (EastEnders, Ackley Bridge) and Mark Benton (Waterloo Road, Northern Lights) are back as private investigators Lu Shakespeare and Frank Hathaway for another ten episodes featuring murder, mystery and the sort of wonderfully bizarre cases the pair have become rather good at stumbling into.

Love is also very much in the air this season. Lu discovers her sister Lia is getting married and finds herself wondering whether handsome stranger Cassius might make the perfect plus one. Meanwhile, things appear to be looking promising for Frank too, when we meet Annie, a local baker who has grown close to him. Unfortunately, romance takes a slightly murderous turn when Annie finds herself accused of killing someone.

Elsewhere, Sebastian could finally be getting a major break in his acting career, while the team gains an enthusiastic new assistant, Bea Gardiner, who is determined to make a good first impression. Given the cases landing on the investigators’ desks this year, that may be easier said than done.

The new run of ‘Shakespeare & Hathaway’ certainly isn’t short on unusual mysteries. Frank and Lu find themselves hypnotised into believing they are trapped in each other’s bodies, British Fashion Week arrives in Stratford-upon-Avon with a deadly bang, and the duo go undercover at a commune for elderly circus performers.

Other cases take the investigators into a film set, an etiquette school and an escape room, while even an A.I. detective manages to cause problems. The season eventually builds towards Lia’s wedding day, as Lu and Frank contemplate both their romantic and professional futures. There is just one small problem: the groom has disappeared.

The opening episode, “By Love’s Own Sweet Constraint”, sees a broken-hearted client suddenly finding himself in the frame for murder, leaving Frank and Lu to discover that the dating game can be rather more deadly than advertised. Meanwhile, Sebastian nervously waits for news about an audition.

As part of the UKTV family, U&alibi is a pay TV channel and is available through Sky, Virgin Media and NOW. Unlike programmes airing on UKTV’s free-to-air channels, ‘Shakespeare & Hathaway’ will not be available to catch up through the free U streaming service.

Shakespeare & Hathaway‘ Season 6 premieres Wednesday, 23rd September 2026 on U&alibi.
