Geektown Radio 504: ‘Neagley’, ‘Marvel’s Midnight Suns’, ‘Lanterns’ & ‘24’ Revival Talk

by Dave Elliott

Geektown Radio returns for Episode 504, with Domingos from The Sunday Film Club joining Dave for another packed week of TV, film and gaming chat! This time, we’re investigating ‘Neagley’, diving into ‘Marvel’s Midnight Suns’, unpacking the finale of ‘Lanterns’, and discussing whether ‘24’ could bring Jack Bauer back for another exceptionally stressful day.

There are also reviews of returning favourites, a new Sky drama, the usual collection of renewals and cancellations, and a look ahead at what’s coming to UK television over the next week.

What We’ve Been Watching: ‘Neagley’, ‘Ted Lasso’, ‘Vigil’ & More

Domingos kicks things off with ‘Neagley’, Prime Video’s ‘Reacher’ spin-off starring Maria Sten (‘Reacher’, ‘Swamp Thing’). We discuss how the series gives its central character a different approach to solving problems, digging into her background while building an engaging supporting cast. Reacher might favour kicking down the door, but Neagley generally likes to work out what’s behind it first.

He also checks in on ‘Ted Lasso’ Season 4, as the focus shifts to AFC Richmond’s women’s team. Domingos highlights the new characters helping drive this chapter, and how the series balances its returning favourites with a team starting from scratch.

Meanwhile, Dave has finished ‘Vigil’ Season 3, which sends its detectives into an Arctic mystery, and shares his thoughts on how the season wraps up. He has also caught up with ‘Toy Story 5’, enjoying Jessie’s central role and the film’s exploration of what happens when a shiny new screen starts pushing the toys aside.

Elsewhere, the second season of the ‘Scrubs’ revival continues to deliver, ‘Slow Horses’ remains essential weekly viewing, and Dave gives his first impressions of ‘WAR’. Sky’s divorce drama has plenty of setup in its opening episode, but its cast and creator give him good reason to stick around for the legal fireworks.

‘Lanterns’: Finale Discussion And Where DC Goes Next

Spoiler warning: our discussion of the ‘Lanterns’ finale gets into major plot developments, so catch up before listening to this section!

Dave and Domingos have both finished ‘Lanterns’, which means it’s time to unpack its mysteries, central partnership and some intriguing questions about what comes next.

We discuss the performances of Kyle Chandler (‘Friday Night Lights’, ‘Bloodline’) and Aaron Pierre (‘Rebel Ridge’, ‘The Underground Railroad’), and how the series combines a grounded detective story with DC’s rather less grounded cosmic mythology.

There’s also plenty of speculation about where another season could take these characters, should one happen. Earthbound investigations or space adventures? We have thoughts, although we’re rather hoping somebody finds a way to keep Chandler involved.

Gaming: Finally Opening ‘Marvel’s Midnight Suns’

After finishing ‘Star Wars: Zero Company’, Dave went looking for another tactical game and discovered ‘Marvel’s Midnight Suns’ sitting patiently in his Steam library.

That has turned into a very enjoyable discovery, combining battles against Hydra with a surprisingly substantial life back at the Abbey. There are superheroes to befriend, grounds to explore, mysteries to solve, and plenty to do between missions.

We discuss why the story and its roster work so well, how the two sides of the game complement each other, and why picking up the DLC alongside the main game can make sense for a first playthrough. Sometimes that game you bought ages ago really does deserve to escape the backlog.

TV News: Renewals, UK Pick-Ups And Missing ‘NCIS’ Episodes

In this week’s news, ‘Reacher’ and ‘Neagley’ both have more adventures ahead, while ‘Tulsa King’ lands another renewal. There’s less cheerful news for ‘The Cage’ and ‘Travel Man’, and we discuss ‘The Watcher’ finally starting production on its second season after a remarkably long wait.

We also cover Sky Witness and NOW picking up ‘Line Of Fire’, UK premiere news for ‘Boston Blue’, ‘Sheriff Country’, ‘Crystal Lake’, ‘Dark Winds’ and ‘The Audacity’, plus ITVX’s deal to add shows from TLC and Quest.

Then there’s ‘NCIS’ Season 23, which unexpectedly appeared on Disney+ UK with seven episodes missing. Those gaps have since been fixed, but the launch certainly gave viewers, and us, a few questions.

Elsewhere, we explore the potential Spider-Man Clone Saga series heading towards a green light at Prime Video, alongside new casting for ‘Bloodaxe’ Season 2.

Could Jack Bauer Return In ‘24’?

We round off the news with Kiefer Sutherland (‘24’, ‘Designated Survivor’) discussing his hopes for a ‘24’ revival and his enthusiasm for the ‘Young Guns 3’ script.

Nothing is confirmed for Jack Bauer’s return, but we consider how a new chapter could resolve his unfinished story while introducing another generation of characters. Leaving him in a Russian prison forever does seem a slightly harsh retirement plan.

Next Week On TV: What To Watch

We finish with a look at the coming week’s UK highlights, including:

  • ‘Carrie’ on Prime Video, bringing Stephen King’s telekinetic teenager to television.
  • ‘Grimsburg’ Season 3 on Sky One.
  • ‘The Party’ on ITVX and ITV1, mixing political connections, old loyalties and buried secrets.
  • ‘Time’ Season 3 on BBC One, returning to Jimmy McGovern’s prison anthology.
  • ‘Treasure Island’ on Paramount+, offering a new take on Robert Louis Stevenson’s adventure.
