Geektown Awards 2013: Winner – Best British TV Show

by Dave Elliott

Welcome to the 2nd Annual Geektown Awards! Just want to say a massive thank you to the thousands of people that voted this year, and made it such a huge success! Without further ado, we’ll start by announcing the winner of our first category… Best British TV Show 2013!

3rd – Broadchurch

A brilliant crime drama starring ex-Doctor David Tennant and Green Wing’s Olivia Colman proved a massive hit for ITV, and proving once again, if you want high quality UK drama, production company Kudos (Spooks, Hustle, Life On Mars) rarely puts a foot wrong. Emotional, gripping, and gritty, Broadchurch totally deserves it’s place in our top 3.

2nd – Downton Abbey

Once again, a win for ITV, with the massively successful Downton Abbey. A huge hit around the globe, even after 4 series, the show is showing no signs of signs of waning popularity, with a 5th series due in 2014.

1st – Doctor Who

Really, in it’s 50th anniversary year, what else could take the top spot but Doctor Who. We’ve seen the proper introduction of a new companion (Clara ‘the impossible girl’ Oswald), the missing regeneration of the Eighth Doctor (Paul McGann), Doctor’s 10 (David Tennant) and 11 (Matt Smith) sharing an epic adventure with the ‘War Doctor’ (John Hurt), and of course, a sad farewell to Matt, but a huge welcome to Peter Capaldi as the 12th Doctor. We may have to wait until Autumn 2014 to see Peter in action properly, but at least it’ll be in one uninterrupted run, unlike the last few years, and I really can’t wait!
