First Trailer For Poldark Season 2 Released

by Dave Elliott

The BBC today released the first trailer for Season 2 of their hit drama Poldark starring Aidan Turner.

Adapted from Winston Graham’s novels, and described as a ‘brooding drama set in 18th-century Cornwall’, the series see Turner as Ross Poldark, a man passionate about turning round the fortunes of his late father’s estate. He returns from the American War of Independence only to find his father dead, the estate in ruins, and his beloved now promised to his cousin…

Turner was quoted earlier in the year saying “I love playing Ross Poldark and am proud to be a part of this production. The second series of 10 episodes presents a whole new set of challenges for both him and me…”

The 2nd season introduces a number of new key characters including John Nettles (Midsomer Murders) as Ray Penvenen, one of the county’s wealthiest landowners, and Gabriella Wilde (Endless Love) as his niece Caroline Penvenen, a beautiful and manipulative heiress. Hugh Skinner (W1A) plays Unwin Trevaunance, a prospective MP who hopes that Caroline (and her fortune) will consent to marry him. But does Caroline’s heart lie elsewhere?

The BBC has already renewed Poldark for a 3rd series, despite the 2nd season having not even aired yet. The show was adapted by Debbie Horsfield from the original novels and is produced by Mammoth Screen.

Poldark Season 2 will air on BBC One – 4th September at 9pm.
