At ‘The Game Awards’ last night, studio Telltale Games dropped a little teaser for their long rumoured Marvel adaptation – Guardians of the Galaxy: The Telltale Series.

It doesn’t really give away… well… anything, but does officially confirm that Guardians of the Galaxy will be the subject of the new game, due to arrive in 2017.

“The energizing blend of humor, emotion, teamwork, and full-on sci-fi action-adventure of the Guardians provides an enormously satisfying space to explore through Telltale’s unique style of interactive storytelling,” said Kevin Bruner, Co-Founder and CEO of Telltale Games. “In Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy: The Telltale Series, players will take on multiple roles within the ragtag band of heroes, and take the pilot’s seat in directing their escapades around the universe. We are always honored to be working with the best creative partners and storytellers in entertainment, and working with Marvel on this series leaves us excited to share what we’ve been developing when it premieres in 2017.”

“With story at the core of everything that Marvel creates, who better to team with than master storytellers Telltale Games,” added Jay Ong, Senior Vice President, Games & Innovation, Marvel Entertainment. “Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy: The Telltale Series fully showcases Marvel and Telltale’s rich legacy of storytelling, and fans will find themselves immersed in an original, character-driven narrative. As part of our strategy to establish a new standard for Marvel games, this is certainly among the great titles to come.”

Telltale have achieved the incredible feat of reviving the ‘point & click’ adventure genre in recent years, with a string of critically praised movie and comic book tie-ins. There have been two ‘seasons’ of their game based on The Walking Dead, plus the miniseries The Walking Dead: Michonne, and the upcoming The Walking Dead: A New Frontier (aka Season 3, which is released on the 20th Dec 2016).

They have also produced a brilliant adaptation of the Fables comic book called The Wolf Among Us, adaptations of movies Back To The Future, and Jurassic Park, and even developed adventure game versions of other video games, including Minecraft & Borderlands. We’ve regularly praised their most recent release, Batman: The Telltale Series on the Geektown Radio show, and it’s nominated for a Geektown Award this year.

We can’t wait to see what they do with Guardians of the Galaxy when the 5 ‘episodes’ of Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy: The Telltale Series arrive in 2017.
