The Changing Face Of Gillian Anderson’s ‘Media’ In American Gods
Gillian Anderson might be best known for playing FBI Special Agent Dana Scully in ‘The X-Files’ or DSI Stella Gibson in ‘The Fall’, but her most recent role as Media in Amazon Prime Video Original ‘American Gods‘ has allowed the actress to reach for the dressing up box in the most spectacular way!
Using costume, make-up and hair styling, Anderson’s look changes drastically in every episode as the shape-shifting goddess of Media takes on the visage of a famous personality. Here’s a selection of Gillian Anderson in Media’s various guises – WARNING, there are obviously some minor *spoilers* about Season 1 of ‘American Gods’ in this post!
Gillian Anderson / Lucille Ball
The first time we see Media is when she shows up as the legendary Lucille Ball on tv screens whilst Shadow (Ricky Whittle) is shopping at a ‘big-box store’. She tries to convince him that siding with the New Gods would be in his best interest, but manages to confuse and freak him out more than anything else!
Gillian Anderson / David Bowie (Life On Mars)
When you need to tell off the wayward upstart ‘Technical Boy’ (Bruce Langley) for attempting to lynch someone, who better to do it than David Bowie in full on ‘Life On Mars’ guise. This isn’t the only costume that Anderson gets to play with in this episode either…
Gillian Anderson / Marilyn Monroe
Media’s second costume change in ‘Lemon Scented You’ is the classic Marilyn Monroe in her ‘Happy Birthday, Mr President’ dress. This occurs in a scene which sees the New Gods trying to convince Wednesday and Shadow that war is not necessary, and if there’s one thing Monroe was good at in that dress, it was convincing men to do what she wanted!
Gillian Anderson / Judy Garland
The finale sees Media don the outfit of Judy Garland from the movie ‘Easter Parade’… which is appropriate given the person she is meeting is Easter (Kristin Chenoweth).
Season 1 of ‘American Gods‘ is available now on Amazon Prime Video, and the Season 1 DVD/Blu-ray will be out on 31st July 2017.
