Kevin Bacon Is Back In ‘Tremors’ TV Series!
We all know TV loves a movie reboot, but what most small screen versions don’t have is the original star of the film. That’s not the case with Syfy’s upcoming pilot based on cult monster flick ‘Tremors’!
For those of you unfamiliar with the franchise, ‘Tremors’ is set in the ex-mining town of Perfection, Nevada. Repairmen Valentine McKee (Bacon) and Earl Bassett (Fred Ward – ‘True Detective’, ‘In Plain Sight’) stumble across a bunch of mysterious deaths, and a concerned seismologist, who is finding some very unnatural readings below the ground. It turns out these readings are being caused by giant burrowing worm-like monsters, with a taste for human flesh! The plucky townsfolk must band together to save their town, and possibly, the world!
The original movie spawned 4 direct-to-video sequels and a tv series back in 2003. However, those versions didn’t have one major USP… the film’s original star, Kevin Bacon!
This new iteration is written by Andrew Miller (‘The Secret Circle’) and set 25 years after the first movie. The killer “Graboid” worms are back, and the town’s only hope for survival is an ageing alcoholic with a delusional hero complex – Valentine McKee (Bacon). He beat them down once before. Can he do it again?
“This is the only character I’ve played that I’ve ever thought about revisiting,” commented Bacon. “I just got to thinking, ‘Where would this guy end up after 25 years?’ Andrew Miller has a fantastic take on it, and we hope to create a show that will be fun and scary for fans of the movie and folks that have yet to discover it. Let’s kick some Graboid ass!”
Whether this new, updated ‘Tremors’ turns out to be a decent drama or something more in the style of ‘Sharknado’ remains to be seen. However, getting Bacon on board is a pretty major step in the right direction, so we shall wait and see what happens with the pilot!
