SDCC: ‘Justice League’ Trailer

by Dave Elliott

And the hits just keep coming from WB at San Diego Comic-Con this year, as they drop an epic new trailer for DC’s hotly anticipated ‘Justice League’ movie!

Fuelled by his restored faith in humanity and inspired by Superman’s selfless act, Bruce Wayne enlists the help of his newfound ally, Diana Prince, to face an even greater enemy. Together, Batman and Wonder Woman work quickly to find and recruit a team of meta-humans to stand against this newly awakened threat. But despite the formation of this unprecedented league of heroes – Batman (Ben Affleck), Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot), Aquaman (Jason Momoa), Cyborg (Ray Fisher) and The Flash (Ezra Miller) – it may already be too late to save the planet from an assault of catastrophic proportions.

As had already been announced, we know Steppenwolf (Ciaran Hinds) is being pitched as the ‘big bad’ for the film. Although, if you know the comic books, I wouldn’t at all be surprised if we get his boss, Darkseid, popping up before the end credits roll.

What is nice to see is some more humour in this trailer, mainly from an exasperated Alfred and an inexperienced Barry Allen. As we reported a few months ago, original director Zack Snyder had to leave the film after a family tragedy, but left it in the very capable hands of geek god Joss Whedon. I could be wrong, that trailer does seem to have Whedon’s sticky mitts all over it, especially in the dialogue.

Another interesting point pops up in Steppenwolf’s voice-over, as he references Earth having ‘No Lanterns’ – i.e. Green Lanterns. This is something we know is going to be rectified, as DC have a Green Lantern Corps film in development. It also ends with an interesting tease of Alfred talking to an unseen arrival – “He said you’d come… Now lets hope you’re not too late.” Could this be the return of Superman we’re all expecting? Or is it a misdirect?

We will find out when ‘Justice League’ lands in cinemas from 17th November 2017.
