SDCC: ‘Supernatural’ & ‘Wayward Sisters’ News

As SDCC comes to a close, we have a few last bits of news about ‘Supernatural’ Season 13, and potential spin-off series Wayward Sisters.

The finale of ‘Supernatural’ Season 12 left fans reeling after it seemingly killed off a couple of fan favourite characters. Whilst Crowley is most definitely done (at least for now), it seems angels are rather harder to kill…

Yes, it does seem Castiel (Misha Collins) will be back, although how, and in what form is being kept under wraps at the moment. Also not as dead as first thought is Winchester mum, Mary (Samantha Smith)… Although she is trapped in the alternative apocalyptic world. Dean is convinced mummy dearest is dead, and is trying to move on, but Sam – ever the optimist – is still holding out hope for her return.

Speaking of the apocalyptic alt world, that will give the show’s writers the chance to bring back various other long dead characters, like we saw with Bobby popping up last season. “The rift could open up the world to old characters coming back,” commented exec producer Andrew Dabb, which seems to imply we could see a more permanent return of some people, as they cross from the alt world into ‘our’ reality.

Over on the potential spin-off  ‘Wayward Sisters’ – we say “potential”, as it will premiere as a backdoor pilot on the main show’s next season – they have confirmed the main cast.

‘Wayward Sisters’ is based around Sheriff Jody Mills (Kim Rhodes) and a group of troubled young women, all orphaned by supernatural events, who have now become hunters. As we suspected, Jody’s two ‘adopted’ kids, Claire Novak (Kathryn Newton), and Alex Jones (Katherine Ramdeen) will form part of the group.

Also confirmed is Briana Buckmaster as Sheriff Donna Hanscum, who’s popped up in a number of ‘Supernatural’ episodes, and ‘Designated Survivor’ star Clark Backo, who will play Patience Turner, a new character with a connection to an old one.

Patience discovers she has inherited a psychic power from her estranged grandmother, Missouri Moseley (Loretta Devine), a character we last saw way back in episode 1.09, ‘Home’. Grandma Moseley is set to pop up in an episode of ‘Supernatural’ this season, presumably as one of those dead people crossing from the alt world.

‘Supernatural’ Season 13 is expected to return to the UK on E4 in early 2018.
