‘Supernatural’ Planning A Spin-Off Called ‘Wayward Sisters’ Around Sheriff Jody Mills

Supernatural are making another attempt at a spin-off series, this time based around fan favourite Sheriff Jody Mills played by Kim Rhodes.

The series would be called ‘Wayward Sisters’ and will have a backdoor pilot as part of Supernatural’s 13th Season. According to Deadline, who broke the story, the series will follow Sheriff Mills and a group of troubled young women, all of them orphaned by supernatural tragedy. Under Mills’ training and protection, the women will emerge as a supreme monster-fighting force. Unlike the original series, which centres on biological brothers, Wayward Sisters is about a sisterhood of girls in a foster family.

Andrew Dabb & Robert Berens, who are writers on the main show are behind the spin-off series, with support from Robert Singer & Phil Sgriccia.

This is actually a pretty smart move on the part of the Supernatural team. Last time they tried a spin-off (called Bloodlines) they introduced a whole new set of characters. This time around they are using someone already well established in the ‘Supernaturalverse’, with a strong link to Sam & Dean. Jody has also already been fostering kids such as Claire Novak and Alex Jones, so basing a show around them is a good logical step.

We’ll have to wait and see when the ‘Wayward Sisters’ episode airs in the next season of ‘Supernatural’ to see if it moves forwards, but fan reaction online so far has been very positive towards the idea.

Supernatural‘ airs on E4 in the UK, and we’re expecting Season 13 to land in early 2018, although that’s not yet confirmed!
