‘True Detective’ Is Coming Back For A 3rd Season!

There have been rumours. There have been talks. Now it’s finally official! True Detective has been renewed for a 3rd season HBO has confirmed today.

The anthology crime drama is entirely penned by show creator Nic Pizzolatto, with the exception of episode 4 which was co-written with ‘Deadwood’ creator David Milch. He will also serve as showrunner and direct the series alongside relative newcomer Jeremy Saulnier… Talk about jumping in at the deep end!

This season will be set in the Ozark Mountains of Arkansas, which is probably a place you had never heard of until Jason Bateman released his brilliant Netflix drama ‘Ozark’ earlier this year! The drama will feature a mystery set in 3 separate time periods that spans decades.

Oscar winner and ‘Moonlight’ star Mahershala Ali take the lead this time around and will be playing Wayne Hays, a state police detective from Northwest Arkansas.

“I’m tremendously thrilled to be working with artists at the level of Mahershala and Jeremy,” commented Pizzolatto in a statement. “I hope the material can do justice to their talents, and we’re all very excited to tell this story.”

True Detective does not yet officially have an air date, but it’s expected to land in 2018, giving HBO another show to fill the gaping hole left by ‘Game Of Thrones’ if that doesn’t make it to screen until 2019 as predicted. It will air on Sky Atlantic in the UK under their agreement with HBO.
