Sky Atlantic Sets September UK Air Date For ‘The Deuce’ From Creators Of ‘The Wire’

by Dave Elliott

Sky Atlantic has announced The Deuce, a new show from the creators of ‘The Wire’ will come to the channel from Tuesday, 26th September 2017 at 9pm.

Created by George Pelecanos and David Simon and starring James Franco (‘11.22.63’, ‘Angie Tribeca’) and Maggie Gyllenhaal (‘The Dark Knight’, ‘The Honourable Woman’), the series follows the story of the legalization and subsequent rise of the porn industry in New York’s Times Square from the early 1970s through the mid-1980s, exploring the rough-and-tumble world at the pioneering moments of what would become the billion-dollar American sex industry.

Although the show is fiction, it’s inspired by the unique stories of real-life people from 1970s Times Square. “Every character had a fantastic story I couldn’t have made up,” commented Pelecanos about the creation of the series.

Being a show about the sex industry, the producers also found themselves walking a fine line between making it believable without being overly gratuitous. “We were involved all the way from its conception, to the writing, to the shooting, to the editing to make sure we didn’t fall on either side of the fence.” commentsSimon, “It was integral that it was a discussion between the men and women working on the project.”

The Deuce‘ comes to Sky Atlantic from Tuesday, 26th September 2017 at 9pm.
