Vikings Renewed For Season 6

Hide your possessions and lock up your loved ones! Vikings will be back to pillage their way through a 6th Season US Network History has announced. The renewal announcement comes before season 5 has aired, which is due to arrive on Amazon Prime UK November.

Filmed in Ireland, the show follows the adventures of the legendary Norse “heroes” as they become the scourge of England and France. The epic tale comes from the pen of Michael Hirst, creator and sole writer of the series.

Although the show comes from the History channel in the US, Amazon Prime has the UK premiere rights to the series this side of the Atlantic. It’s then repeated at a later date on History UK. Season 5, like Season 4, will be split into 2 halves, with 8 episodes airing from Thursday, 30 November 2017 on Amazon Prime UK, and the next 10 episodes coming in 2018. It will then come to History UK after the Amazon airing has finished, so that could be 2018 or 2019.

*WARNING – for those of you running a bit behind, spoilers for Season 4 below!*

As we head into the season 5, Ivar the Boneless (Alex Høgh) is asserting his leadership over the Great Heathen Army, while Lagertha (Katheryn Winnick) reigns as Queen of Kattegat. Ivar’s murder of his brother Sigurd (David Lindström) sets the stage for vicious battles to come as Ragnar’s sons plot their next moves after avenging their father’s death. Bjorn (Alexander Ludwig) follows his destiny into the Mediterranean Sea and Floki (Gustaf Skarsgård) who is suffering from the loss of his wife Helga (Maude Hirst), takes to the seas submitting himself to the will of the Gods.

“Vikings has creatively sailed to monumental lengths. The series has evolved from early raids in England, to the heart-stopping death of Ragnar Lothbrok, to the fierce battles of the Great Heathen Army, and now we’ll see the sons of Ragnar exploring and conquering the known world,” comments Eli Lehrer, EVP Programming, History. “Michael Hirst has only scratched the surface of his epic saga. We look forward to continuing our partnership with one of the greatest writers in this era of Peak TV and entertaining our viewers with 40 new episodes over the next two seasons.”

Vikings‘  Season 5, part 1 is due to land on Amazon Prime from Thursday, 30 November 2017.
