Matt Ryan Returning As Constantine in Season 3 Of ‘DC’s Legends of Tomorrow’

Great news for fans of Matt Ryan and his brilliant portrayal of ‘Constantine’! Having popped up in ‘Arrow’ the scouse occult detective will be making an appearance in DC’s Legends of Tomorrow it has been announced!

In a recent interview with Rotten Tomatoes, ‘Legends’ showrunner Phil Klemmer let slip a little bit of info about things the gang will encounter in the upcoming 3rd Season. As part of the list, he casually throws in a comment about the return of Constantine to the Arrowverse!

“We get Billy Zane and the circus [as circus master PT Barnum in episode 2],” says Klemmer. “We get a little Julius Caesar on the beach in Aruba in the premiere. We meet Zari [new team member played by Tala Ashe] in this sort of dystopian future. We get to do a little Amblin alien episode back in the ’80s; we do some Jack the Ripper Victorian London; Golden Age of Hollywood; John Constantine doing an exorcism. We do a Freaky Friday episode. The only thing we haven’t been able to do: We really wanted to do an Abba “Waterloo” in the Napoleonic wars but we could not get the rights for the song.”

Along with popping up in LoT, Ryan is also back voicing ‘Constantine’ in a new animated series for CW Seed in the U.S. Annoyingly, Sky has so far been reluctant to pick up the CW Seed DC animated series, which includes the ‘Vixen’ animated show, despite them being part of the Arrowverse.

Whilst it’s a shame they haven’t managed to get Ryan to come back full time (yet), I am glad they are keeping the character alive in the universe. It’s not like the Legends don’t have enough other things on their plates this season… After the defeat of Eobard Thawne and his equally nefarious Legion of Doom, the Legends face a new threat created by their actions at the end of last season. In revisiting a moment in time that they had already participated in, they have essentially fractured the timeline and created anachronisms – a scattering of people, animals, and objects all across time!

Our team must find a way to return all the anachronisms to their original timelines before the time stream falls apart. But before our Legends can jump back into action, Rip Hunter (Arthur Darvill) and his newly established Time Bureau call their methods into question. With the Time Bureau effectively the new sheriffs in town, the Legends disband – until Mick Rory (Dominic Purcell) discovers one of them in the middle of his well-deserved vacation in Aruba. Seeing this as an opportunity to continue their time travelling heroics, Sara (Caity Lotz) wastes no time in getting the Legends back together. We reunite with billionaire inventor Ray Palmer (Brandon Routh), the unconventional historian-turned-superhero Nate Heywood (Nick Zano), and Professor Martin Stein (Victor Garber) and Jefferson “Jax” Jackson (Franz Drameh), who together form the meta-human Firestorm. Once reunited, the Legends will challenge the Time Bureau’s authority over the timeline and insist that however messy their methods may be, some problems are beyond the Bureau’s capabilities. Some problems can only be fixed by Legends.

DC’s Legends of Tomorrow‘ returns to Sky 1 from Wednesday, 18th October 2017 at 8pm.
