With Season 2 of ‘The Shannara Chronicles‘ due to arrive on the Thursday, 19th October 2017 at 9 pm on 5Star, the network has given us this video to give you a little recap of what happened last season.
‘The Shannara Chronicles’ Season 1 Recap
Season 1 introduced us to an Earth thousands of years after the destruction of our civilization. The planet is divided into what is known as the Four Lands, whose inhabitants are a mix of races including elves, trolls, gnomes and humans.
Demons had once roamed the land but were defeated and trapped inside a realm known as The Forbidding, which is kept locked by the Ellcrys – A tree which is protected by ‘The Chosen’ – a group of the elves. So long as the tree lives, the demons can’t escape. The Chosen’s role has been largely ceremonial… But that’s about to change.
Princess Amberle (Poppy Drayton) becomes a member of The Chosen, against her grandfather wishes (King Eventine played by John Rhys-Davies.) When she touches the Ellcrys, she gets a vision of elves being slaughtered. This awakens Allanon, the last Druid, who rushes to tell Eventine the Ellcrys is dying.
Meanwhile, Wil Ohmsford (Austin Butler), a young half-human/half-elf, leaves his home in Shady Vale to uncover the mystery behind the Elfstones which were handed to him by his dying mother. He doesn’t get very far before running into Eretria (Ivana Baquero), a Rover, aka human thief, who is desperate to get away from the control of her father.
As the story continues, Wil meets Allanon, and he revealed that the half-elf boy is actually a descendant of the Shannara family, a powerful line of druids destined to help save the Four Lands from demons.
Back with the Ellcrys, as the leaves fall, demons are released, led by The Dagda Mor, an ancient elvish druid who turned into a demon. With The Chosen attacked and slaughtered by the demons, it’s up to Amberle, with the help of Wil and Eretria, to save the tree, by bathing its seed in the Bloodfire… They just have to find the Bloodfire first.
The Trio set off on a quest, which leads them to Safehold, the location of the Bloodfire. Amberle takes the seed inside, only to be told she must sacrifice her life to the tree for it to be reborn. As they head back to the Ellcrys, the group are attacked by trolls, forcing them to leave Eretria behind.
Returning to Ellcrys, the demons are overrunning the defences, Eventine is dead, and Allanon is making a last stand alongside Ander (Aaron Jakubenko), Eventine’s youngest son who is now King. As all hope seems lost, Amberle sacrifices herself, bringing the Ellcrys back to life and locking the demons back in The Forbidding. Having lost Amberle, Wil is determined not to lose Eretria too, and heads back out to save her from the trolls.
What To Expect In ‘The Shannara Chronicles’ Season 2…
A year after the events of last season, The Four Lands is in chaos. The re-emergence of magic has the populace terrified, and an organization called The Crimson is hunting down magic users, using fear and intimidation to sow discord among the races. Wil, scarred by the loss of Amberle and his separation from Eretria, has turned his back on his magical destiny to become a healer. But when a mysterious woman named Mareth saves Wil from a Crimson attack, he is forced to rejoin the fight. After reuniting with Eretria, Wil and Mareth seek out Allanon, only to learn that the Druid’s former protégé, Bandon, is
on a mission to resurrect a creature of darkest evil: The Warlock Lord. Together, our heroes must band together to take down The Crimson and prevent Bandon from unleashing an even greater threat upon the Four Lands, before it’s too late.
