Stephen Dorff Joins Mahershala Ali In ‘True Detective’ Season 3

True Detective has found it’s co-lead for the upcoming 3rd Season it was announced last night. Stephen Dorff will join the previously announced Mahershala Ali (‘Moonlight’) in HBO’s drama when it returns.

This season will be set in the Ozark Mountains of Arkansas, and sees Dorff playing Roland West, an Arkansas State Investigator who has his life and career influenced over three decades by a baffling crime. Ali plays Wayne Hays, a state police detective from Northwest Arkansas.  They are also joined by Carmen Ejogo (‘The Girlfriend Experience’, ‘Fantastic Beasts’), who plays Amelia Reardon, an Arkansas schoolteacher with a connection to two missing children in 1980.

Dorff has most recently been seen in music drama ‘Star’ playing Brody Dean, but has appeared in many films over the years including Sofia Coppola’s ‘Somewhere’, Tarsem Singh’s ‘Immortals’, and the first ‘Blade’ movie. Mahershala Ali won an Oscar for his role in ‘Moonlight’, but you may also know him from playing Cottonmouth in ‘Luke Cage’ and Remy Danton in ‘House of Cards’.

The 3rd season of the anthology crime drama is entirely penned by show creator Nic Pizzolatto, with the exception of episode 4 which was co-written with ‘Deadwood’ creator David Milch. Pizzolatto will also serve as showrunner and direct the series alongside Jeremy Saulnier (‘Green Room’, ‘Blue Ruin’.)

HBO has yet to give a release date for True Detective‘ Season 3, but if they are only casting now, that likely puts it in either late 2018 or possibly 2019. We’ll keep you updated when we hear more.
