‘Once Upon A Time’ To End With Season 7

US network ABC has called time on Once Upon A Time it has announced. The fairytale series will come to a permanent end when the current 7th Season is concluded.

“We’ve had conversations for a while about what this year would be, and whether it would go on or not, and if this could be the end, so we’ve been prepared for this for a while,” commented co-creator Adam Horowitz in an interview with EW. “Ultimately, it’s also a business, so it becomes about, ‘Is it financially viable to keep going forward?’ so there’s all that kind of stuff, stuff that we generally don’t deal with because we’re just focused mostly on the creative. We reached that point where it’s like, “Okay, now it’s time to wrap it up. This has been an amazing 156 episode-run, and let’s all be proud of what we’ve done and try to wrap it up.”

The series took a major creative right turn at the end of last season, as it got rid of most of the original cast, and changed the entire setting of the show. The new direction saw Henry leave Storybrooke to go in search of his own story. Years later in another realm, he encounters a troubled Cinderella (Dania Ramirez – ‘The Sopranos’, ‘Heroes’, ‘Devious Maids’), changing the trajectory of his quest forever. When Cinderella’s evil step-mother, Lady Tremaine (Gabrielle Anwar – ‘The Tudors’, ‘Burn Notice’), poses a threat, Henry discovers that following his heart will require him to make more difficult choices than he ever could have imagined. Years later, a young Lucy (Alison Fernandez – ‘Jane the Virgin’, ‘Orange Is the New Black’) finds a disillusioned Henry (Andrew J. West) at his home in Seattle, determined to make him remember his true self in order to defeat the curse afflicting the fairytale characters of ‘Hyperion Heights’.

For those of you concerned things will be left hanging, don’t worry. “We did not go into this season assuming there would be a season 8, so we had two paths for the finale,” adds co-creator Edward Kitsis. “One where it was closed-ended, one where it was open-ended. We had been building toward it the whole year anyways, so instead of a cliffhanger, it will just be a closed-ended story that wraps it up. But we’re prepared and ready, so we weren’t shocked by it.”

Once Upon A Time‘ returns to Netflix UK for part 2 of the 7th, and now final season from 6th March 2018.
