USA Network Orders 4 Pilots Including ‘Bourne’ Prequel

USA Network has squeezed in an ordered 4 new pilots as we come to the end of pilot season across the Atlantic. One is a prequel to the Jason Bourne movies, one is a darkly comedic drama from Denis Leary, and the last two are book adaptations from novels by Ross Thomas and Megan Abbott.

The Bourne prequel is titled ‘Treadstone’ and comes from ‘Heroes’ creator Tim Kring. The show follows the origin story and present-day actions of a CIA black ops program which created the unstoppable assassin we came to know and love. The story follows various sleeper agents who are “woken” to take part in their deadly missions. Kring has written the pilot which will be directed by Ramin Bahrani (‘Fahrenheit 451’). Kring and Bahrani exec produce with Ben Smith & Jeffrey Weiner for Captivate and Justin Levy with Bradley Thomas for Imperative Entertainment.

Actor/comedian Denis Leary is the co-creator and star of ‘Erase’, a dark comedic drama about Donal O’Neal, a dirty ex-cop who finally decides to turn on his equally corrupt superior officers. The only problem is, his previously photographic memory is failing him due to the symptoms of early-onset Alzheimer’s. It’s now a race against time to repair the damage Donal has done to his estranged family while trying to avoid being killed by his enemies. Alex Cary (‘Taken’, ‘Homeland’, ‘Lie To Me’) co-created the series with Leary and the duo will exec produce with Jim Serpico from Apostle Pictures.

‘Briarpatch’ is based on the novel by Ross Thomas and follows Allegra Dill, an investigator who finds herself involved in a plot much closer to home both figuratively and literally. After her sister is murdered by a car bomb, she returns to her border-town Texas home, but what begins as a search for a killer turns into a fight to root out corruption in her hometown. The show is written by ‘Legion’ producer Andy Greenwald who will also exec produce with Sam Esmail (the man behind the brilliant ‘Mr Robot’.) Yann Demange (‘Top Boy’, ‘Dead Set’) will direct the pilot and also exec produce along with Chad Hamilton for Anonymous Content.

Lastly, ‘Dare Me’ is an adaptation of the novel by Megan Abbott, and follows the story of two best friends in the cutthroat world of competitive high school cheerleading as a new coach arrives in their small Midwestern town determined to take their team to the top. Abbott herself is writing the adaptation and will exec produce with Gina Fattore, Peter Berg and Michael Lombardo.

All four of these shows are currently pilots, so might not go to full seasons, but we’ll let you know when we hear more.
