ITV series ‘Grantchester‘ has been renewed for a 4th Season the broadcaster has announced. But before you get too excited, they’ve also said it’ll be the final episodes for James Norton…
Norton, who plays Sidney Chambers, the charismatic, jazz-loving clergyman, is leaving the show but will be replaced by a new vicar who will be arriving in the hamlet of Grantchester, and is to “be announced shortly”. Robson Green, who plays Detective Geordie Keating, the other half of the half of the unlikely 1950s crime-fighting duo is sticking around though.
“It’s a bittersweet time for Grantchester fans, who will be cheering the return of the series but crushed to say goodbye to James,” comments MASTERPIECE Executive Producer Rebecca Eaton, who co-produce the series. “We want to assure them that the series they love will continue with brilliant new episodes and a captivating new vicar.”
“I’m ecstatic that – with Masterpiece and ITV – we are returning to Grantchester with all our favourite characters,” adds Exec Producer Diederick Santer. “While I’m sad that these will be James Norton’s final episodes, we will make sure he goes out with a bang. We’ve got exciting plans for where the show is heading and the vicarage won’t be vacant for long.”
‘Grantchester‘ Season 4 is a co-production of Kudos and MASTERPIECE for ITV and is distributed internationally by Endemol Shine International who has sold the show across 162 countries. No news on an air date yet, but production in London, Cambridge, and Grantchester in June 2018.
