It’s official! Amazon has picked up epic space drama ‘The Expanse‘ for a 4th Season!… That collective exhale you hear is fans all over the world breathing a sigh of relief!
Head of Amazon and sci-fi geek, Jeff Bezos himself, made the announcement whilst at the National Space Society’s International Space Development Conference in Los Angeles, which had members of the cast in attendance. “I was talking to the cast half an hour ago, before the break for dinner started,” said Bezos. “I was telling them that we are working hard at Amazon to save The Expanse but it wasn’t a done deal yet. During dinner, ten minutes ago, I just got word that The Expanse is saved,” He then pointed at the table where the cast were sat. adding “The show is extraordinary and these guys are unbelievably talented.” Cas Anvar, who plays Alex Kamal on the show caught the whole thing on video and uploaded it to Twitter:

What this doesn’t make clear is what this means for the international rights. That could mean ‘The Expanse’ moving from Netflix to Amazon Prime UK. However, that isn’t confirmed. It’s possible Alcon, who fund and produce the series, have only done a deal for the US, and the international rights will stay the same, which would be a little odd given they are rival streaming services… We’ll update you when we have some solid information.
Set hundreds of years in the future, ‘The Expanse’ is set in a time when humans have colonised the solar system, with the U.N. controlling Earth, and Mars becoming an independent military power. The planets rely on the resources of the Asteroid Belt, where air and water are more precious than gold. For decades, tensions have been rising between these 3 places. Earth, Mars and the Belt are now on the brink of war… And all it will take is a single spark.
‘The Expanse‘ Seasons 1 and 2 are (currently) on Netflix UK. Season 3 has yet to air in the UK, but we’ll update you when we have more info.
