US Network ‘Starz’ Launches ‘StarzPlay’ On Amazon Prime Video

Whilst we were away at MCM Comic Con this weekend, Amazon announced a new channel coming to their additional paid channel options on Prime Video on Friday, and it’s quite a big one – US network ‘Starz’.

STARZPLAY comes to the Prime Video Channels line-up in the UK and Germany giving European viewers the opportunity to watch selected exclusive STARZ series all in one place for the first time. More importantly, ALL future STARZ Originals will be launched exclusively on the channel on the same day as the US.

This as an additional service to the main Amazon Prime Video offering, and will cost £4.99 a month, with a 7-day free trial. ‘STARZPLAY’ includes the highly acclaimed shows ‘Vida’ and ‘Sweetbitter’, along with popular series such as ‘Boss’, ‘Party Down’, ‘Survivor’s Remorse’, and ‘Swedish Dicks’, plus a movie library, featuring films such as ‘Requiem for a Dream’, and ‘The Hunger Games’.

“The launch of STARZPLAY on Amazon in the UK and Germany marks a significant expansion of the STARZ platform into the global market, providing an exciting opportunity for us to build on the success of our relationship with Amazon Prime Video Channels,” said Starz President and CEO Chris Albrecht. “These new channels allow us to extend the reach of our storytelling and bring the growing portfolio of STARZ original series as well our extensive library of hit TV series and movies to a new audience.”

STARZPLAY joins Prime Video Channels as Amazon celebrates one year since launching its channels service in the UK and Germany, offering Prime members in the UK a line-up of over 70 channels, including live and on-demand entertainment and sport, available as individual subscriptions, with no need to sign up to a bundle and anytime cancellation.

“Since launching Prime Video Channels in the UK and Germany a year ago, we continue to build on the selection of live and on-demand TV channels for Prime members with over 120 channels across Europe, so it couldn’t be more fitting that today we celebrate by bringing customers STARZPLAY,” said Alex Green, European MD of Channels and Sport at Amazon Prime Video. “It’s fantastic we can now offer Prime members in the UK and Germany even more choice and quality, with the wide range of STARZ Originals, TV series and movies exclusively available on STARZPLAY.”

We should also point out, the new channel only effects shows going forwards, and has no impact on current UK deals, such as ‘Outlander’, which still comes as part of the main Prime Video service, or ‘Ash vs Evil Dead’ which is exclusive to Virgin. It does mean, however, The Royals, which has been without a home on UK TV since E! dropped it after two seasons, can now be found on the new service.
