‘Shadowhunters’ Is Cancelled After 3 Seasons By Freeform

Just when you thought the bloodbath was over, a few stragglers manage to catch a stray bullet as they’re fleeing the battlefield. The latest victim is Shadowhunters, which has been cancelled by US network Freeform after 3 seasons.

The supernatural drama series is based on The Mortal Instruments novels by Cassandra Clare starring ‘The Maze Runner’s’ Katherine McNamara as Clary Fray, a girl who discovers, on her 19th birthday, she comes from a line of humans born with angelic blood who protect humanity from demons known as Shadowhunters.

There is a tiny silver lining to the cancellation though, as Freeform have said they do want to allow the show to have a proper ending and not leave fans high and dry.

“We are very proud of ‘Shadowhunters’, a series that broke new ground in the genre world and became a fan favourite,” Freeform commented in a statement. “However, along with our partners at Constantin, we reached the very difficult decision not to renew the show for a fourth season. But as big supporters and fans ourselves, Freeform insisted on and championed the filming of a special two-part finale that would give devoted fans a proper ending. The twelve episodes will air in spring of 2019. We want to thank our talented creators, producers, cast and crew along with our colleagues at Constantin for their hard work and dedication and to Cassie Clare for her incredible book series. We look forward to the final chapter of this breakthrough drama.”

Shadowhunters‘ airs on Netflix in the UK, so expect to see Season 3 part 2 in 2019 the day after it airs in the US.
