Chris Addison & Will Smith (Not That One) Team Up For Fantasy Detective Series ‘Warlock Holmes’

According to Deadline, ‘Veep’ alumni Chris Addison & Will Smith (NOT the ‘Fresh Prince of Bel-Air’ one), have re-teamed to create a new fantasy detective series, currently under the working title of ‘Warlock Holmes’.

The project, which is being described as “Princess Bride-meets-Game of Thrones”, has already been picked up by and unnamed UK broadcaster, and is currently making waves in LA as it’s pitched to various US broadcasters.

Addison and Smith previously worked together on Armando Iannucci’s brilliant ‘Veep’ which saw Addison direct a number of episodes whilst Smith was writing for the series. Addison was nominated for an Emmy for his work and won a Directors Guild of America award. Smith has landed two Emmys for his writing on the show, along with two Writers Guild of America Awards and nominations for Golden Globes.

‘Warlock Holmes’ (w/t) is believed to be being produced Avalon Television, the people behind ‘Catastrophe’, ‘Man Down’, ‘Last Week Tonight’, ‘Not Going Out’ and ‘Taskmaster’. It should also be noted, ‘Warlock Holmes’ is also the name of a comedy fantasy novel series by G. S. Denning, but it’s not clear if there is a connection between the two at the moment.

Addison has recently concluded directing a female led remake of the Steve Martin/Michael Caine classic ‘Dirty Rotten Scoundrels’ titled ‘The Hustle’ starring Rebel Wilson and Anne Hathaway. Smith has been working on Morwenna Banks/Jo Brand comedy ‘Dammed’, and also contributed to Simon Blackwell’s Channel 4 comedy ‘Back’ starring  David Mitchell and Robert Webb.

We’ll bring you more on ‘Warlock Holmes’ as we get it.

This would be awesome if, and only if, you give credit to the REAL genius behind “Warlock Holmes.” He’s an author of the book series by the same title. He should be involved in the work and world he thought up he created.
