First Look At Channel 4/Hulu Sean Penn Led Sci-Fi Drama ‘The First’
Channel 4 has released some “first look” images for its upcoming new sci-fi drama ‘The First‘, from Beau Willimon.
Sean Penn leads an ensemble cast in this near-future drama about a crew of astronauts attempting to become the first humans on Mars. Under the direction of visionary aerospace magnate Laz Ingram (Natascha McElhone – ‘Designated Survivor’, ‘Californication’), the crew contends with peril and personal sacrifice as they undertake the greatest pioneering feat in human history. The show, which comes from ‘House of Cards’ creator, Beau Willimon, the story focuses not only on the astronauts, but also on their families and loved ones, as well as the ground team on Earth.
Hulu and Channel 4 have given a straight-to-series order for the show, and Willimon will serve as executive producer alongside his producing partner Jordan Tappis under their Westward Productions banner. Commissioned by Channel 4 and Hulu, ‘The First’ will be co-financed by Hulu, Channel 4, IMG and AG Studios.
Hulu has announced it will release the series on September 14, 2018, in the US. Channel 4 has said ‘The First‘ will air in the UK “later this year”, so we would expect it to land around the same time in the Autumn. We’ll bring you more news as we get it.
