Anne Rice’s ‘The Vampire Chronicles’ Series Lands At Hulu
It looks like Anne Rice’s much anticipated ‘The Vampire Chronicles‘ series has found a home at Hulu according to reports.
As we mentioned back in November last year, Anne Rice announced on Facebook she has regained control of the theatrical rights to her massively successful book series, and was working on a pilot script with her son, Christopher Rice, for a tv adaptation. Those rights were subsequently optioned by Paramount TV & Anonymous Content – the companies behind ‘Mr. Robot’, ‘13 Reasons Why’ and ‘The OA’. Bryan Fuller, the ‘Littlest Hobo’ of tv producers, was attached to the project for a short time, before moving on to other things, as he tends to do.
For those of you that don’t know the series, The Vampire Chronicles consists of 11 books, and starts with Louis, an 18th-century French colonial aristocrat, who is turned into the world’s whiniest vampire by the extremely charismatic Lestat. The series continues, mainly focusing on Lestat (I’m sure Louis would whine about that too), as he continues his exploits across the ages.
Various attempts have been made to bring The Vampire Chronicles to screen, the most successful being in 1994 with an adaption of Rice’s first novel in the series ‘Interview With the Vampire’, starring Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt. Anne Rice is also still producing the novels, with ‘Blood Communion: A Tale of Prince Lestat’ due out in October 2018.
Anne and Christopher Rice will serve as exec producers on the show, should it go to series, alongside David Kanter and Steve Golin for Anonymous Content. The series is still at the development stage at the moment so still might not make it into production, although, given the interest in the project, it seems fairly likely Hulu will at least produce a pilot. We do know Christopher Rice has completed the pilot script titled “The Wolf Killer”, after he tweeted out a photo of the front page. Should also be noted, on the script, the series is titled ‘The Vampire Lestat’.
