Bryan Fuller Exits Anne Rice’s ‘The Vampire Chronicles’ Series…

Bryan Fuller has left yet another job… According to Nerdist, the ‘Littlest Hobo’ of tv producers has parted ways with Anne Rice’s The Vampire Chronicles series, apparently, only a few weeks after it was announced he’d joined the project. No reason was given for his departure. This marks the 4th show in a row Fuller has left, following his departure from Apple’s Amazing Stories reboot, Star Trek: Discovery, and American Gods.

‘The Vampire Chronicles’ consists of 11 books and starts with Louis, an 18th-century French colonial aristocrat, who is turned into the world’s whiniest vampire by the extremely charismatic Lestat. The series continues, mainly focusing on Lestat (I’m sure Louis would whine about that too), as he continues his exploits across the ages. Various attempts have been made to bring ‘The Vampire Chronicles’ to screen, the most successful being in 1994 with an adaption of Rice’s first novel in the series ‘Interview With the Vampire’, starring Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt.

The show itself is still continuing regardless, with Anne’s screenwriter son, Christopher Rice, tweeting out a photo of the finished pilot screen titled “The Wolf Killer”. Should also be noted on the script the series is titled ‘The Vampire Lestat’.

When it was announced back in January that Fuller would be joining the team it seemed like the perfect fit. The producer had originally approached Anne back when he was a teen saying he wanted to develop a script based on her books, but she’d told him to go away and get some experience first… Which he did, producing shows such as ‘Hannibal’, ‘Dead Like Me’ and the wonderful ‘Pushing Daisies’. Sadly, for whatever reason, it was not to be.

At the moment, ‘The Vampire Chronicles/The Vampire Lestat’ series doesn’t yet have a network, however, it is an extremely popular property, so I wouldn’t expect it to stay that way. Paramount TV & Anonymous Content – the companies behind ‘Mr Robot’’13 Reasons Why’ and ‘The OA’ – optioned the rights to the book series back in November, so, presumably, would act as the studio. Anne Rice is also still producing the novels, with ‘Blood Communion: A Tale of Prince Lestat’ due out in October 2018.

We’ll let you know when we have further updates on the project.
