Sam Witwer Joins ‘Supergirl’ As Agent Liberty

Supergirl has been raiding the ‘Smallville’ casting box again, as Sam Witwer joins the 4th Season in a series regular role as Agent Liberty.

Agent Liberty is a relatively new (in comic book terms) character from the DC roster, having first appeared in 1991. As we know, the tv shows tend to play around with character history a little from the comic book versions, but the description given by the ‘Supergirl’ producers does seem to hit the same beats as the comic character in this case. Agent Liberty is a charismatic, but ruthless and terrifying founder of “human-first” hate group, Children of Liberty. He is a brilliant orator in the guise of a family man” and the scariest thing about him is how easily he can convince people that he’s right.

Sam Witwer’s previous foray into the DC world saw him play Doomsday in ‘Smallville’. More recently he’s been seen as Mr. Hyde in ‘Once Upon A Time’, Aidan in the US version of ‘Being Human’, and is the voice of Darth Maul across various platforms, including the ‘Star Wars: Battlefront’ games, and in ‘Star Wars Rebels’.

Witwer joins the other ‘Smallville’ vets who have popped up in ‘Supergirl’, including Erica Durance, who took over the role of Kara’s mother, Alura Zor-El, and Laura Vandervoort, who guest starred as the villain Indigo back in the 1st Season.

As we mentioned last month, there are a few casting changes coming up as the Girl Of Steel heads into her 4th Season. Jeremy Jordan, who plays lovable DEO geek Winn Schott, has been downgraded from series regular to a recurring role, as Winn headed off to help out the Legion in the future at the end of Season 3. He’s traded places with Brainiac-5, who stays behind to help the DEO, and sees Jesse Rath upgraded to a series regular.

Supergirl‘ and all the other CW/DC TV shows will return to Sky One in Autumn 2018.
