After it’s premiere at SDCC, Netflix UK has released the Star Trek: Discovery Season 2 trailer, along with the announcement the show will arrive in Early 2019.

‘Star Trek: Discovery’ follows Sonequa Martin-Green as Michael Burnham, a wayward Starfleet Officer who finds herself on the USS Discovery as she learns that to truly understand all things alien, you must first understand yourself.

If you remember, in the closing scene of ‘Star Trek: Discovery‘ Season 1 *Season 1 Finale SPOILER WARNING* the titular exploration vessel was on its way to Vulcan to pick up a new captain when they pick up a distress call from the Enterprise. As anyone who knows about Star Trek lore will tell you, the captain of the ship in this time period is Captain Pike, as it pre-dates Kirk getting his mitts on the captain’s chair.

Pike is played by ‘Hell On Wheels’ and ‘Inhumans’ star, Anson Mount, at the trailer seems to point to him taking temporary control of the USS Discovery. We will also be getting to see a certain pointed eared science officer next season according to new showrunner Alex Kurtzman, although Spock doesn’t make an appearance in the trailer. It was also announced that Rebecca Romijn (‘The Librarians’) will play Number One, Pike’s right-hand lady, who was played by the legendary Majel Barrett in the original series.

In other Trek news, CBS has also commisioned ‘Short Treks’, a little, 10-15 min, 4-episode companion series which will delve into the backstories of some of the characters. We will be getting to see how Saru (Doug Jones) coped with being the first Kelpien in Starfleet, and also how Tilly (Mary Wiseman) ended up on the Discovery. Rainn Wilson will be returning as mischievous Harry Mudd, and Aldis Hodge (‘Leverage’, ‘Underground’) will be playing Craft, a man who finds himself the only human aboard a deserted ship.

Star Trek: Discovery’ Season 2 will premiere on Netflix UK in Early 2019.
