Channel 4 Picks Up ‘Charmed’, ‘Happy Together’. Renews ‘The Good Fight’ from CBS

Channel 4 has struck a massive deal with US network CBS which will bring the UK premiere of teen supernatural drama Charmed and Damon Wayans, Jr. comedy Happy Together. They have also picked up the UK broadcast rights to The Good Fight Season 3 along with a number of classic shows from CBS’s extensive portfolio.

The new take ‘Charmed’ comes from  ‘Jane the Virgin’ creator Jennie Snyder Urman, with writers Jessica O’Toole & Amy Rardin. The fantasy drama centres on three sisters in a college town who discover they are witches after the tragic death of their mother. Between vanquishing supernatural demons, tearing down the patriarchy, and maintaining familial bonds, a witch’s work is never done. Sarah Jeffery (‘Shades of Blue’, ‘Wayward Pines’), Madeleine Mantock(‘Into the Badlands’, ‘The Tomorrow People’), and Melonie Diaz (‘Fruitvale Station’, ‘The Breaks’) star.

Charmed‘ will premiere on E4 in the UK. They haven’t nailed down an air date yet, but we believe they are aiming for Early 2019.

‘Happy Together’ follows a 30-something couple, tired of their mundane life, start to reconnect with their younger, cooler selves when a young pop star who is drawn to their super-normal suburban life, moves in. The show comes from ‘The Last Man on Earth’ writer Tim McAuliffe and stars Damon Wayans, Jr. (‘New Girl’), Amber Stevens West (‘Ghosted’), Felix Mallard (‘Neighbours’), Stephnie Weir (‘Crazy Ex-Girlfriend’), and Chris Parnell (‘Archer’, and voice of Jerry in ‘Rick and Morty’).

Ben Winston and Harry Styles will executive produce the series which is very (VERY) loosely inspired by the time when Harry lived in Ben’s attic during the height of One Direction’s success.

Happy Together‘ will also premiere on E4, and they currently have it pencilled in to arrive in October 2018 (although that may change).

In addition the two new shows, this new CBS deal extends the UK rights of ‘The Good Fight’ on More4. Season 1 was the second best series on More4 in 2017, while the 2nd Season is currently the channel’s best series so far this year. The Good Fight‘ Season 3 will land in 2019 (it’s usually around March).

In addition, the new agreement will bring some of television’s most iconic series from CBS’ extensive library to various Channel 4 owned platforms. These include ‘Cheers’, which will play on Channel 4; The original ‘Sabrina the Teenage Witch’ series, which will air on 4Music; ‘90210’, which will be available exclusively on All 4; and ‘Rules Of Engagement’, which will come to E4.
