Matt Bomer Joins DC’s ‘Doom Patrol’ As Larry Trainor/Negative Man

DC has found its last Doom Patrol member. ‘White Collar’ star Matt Bomer will take the role of Larry Trainor, aka Negative Man.

‘Doom Patrol’ is a re-imagining of one of DC’s most beloved group of outcast superheroes: Robotman, Negative Man, Elasti-Girl and Crazy Jane, led by modern-day mad scientist Dr. Niles Caulder (The Chief). The Doom Patrol’s members each suffered horrible accidents that gave them superhuman abilities – but also left them scarred and disfigured. Traumatized and downtrodden, the team found purpose through The Chief, who brought them together to investigate the weirdest phenomena in existence – and to protect Earth from what they find. Part support group, part Super Hero team, the Doom Patrol is a band of super-powered freaks who fight for a world that wants nothing to do with them.

Bomer will join the already announced cast of Joivan Wade (‘EastEnders’, ‘Doctor Who’) as Vic Stone, aka Cyborg, Brendan Fraser (‘The Mummy’ movies, ‘Trust’) as Cliff Steel/Robotman, April Bowlby (‘Two and a Half Men’, ‘Drop Dead Diva’) as Elasti-Girl, Diane Guerrero (‘Orange Is the New Black’, ‘Jane the Virgin’) as Crazy Jane, and Timothy Dalton (‘James Bond’, ‘Penny Dreadful’) as The Chief. Alan Tudyk (‘Firefly, ‘Rogue One’, ‘Dollhouse’) was recently announced as taking the role of Eric Morden, aka Mr. Nobody, the main villain for this season.

As with all the ‘Doom Patrol’ members, Negative Man gains his powers through a tragic accident. In the case of Larry Trainor, he is accidentally exposed to a radioactive field in the atmosphere while piloting a test plane. This gives him the ability to fly, cause solid objects to explode, and pass through solid materials.

Much like Brendan Fraser’s Robotman, Bomer will be playing the pre-accident Larry Trainor, and voicing Negative Man in the series. The physical on-screen performance of Negative Man will be played by Matthew Zuk.

Along with starring in ‘White Collar’, Matt Bomer’s other work includes ‘The Last Tycoon’, ‘American Horror Story’, and ‘Chuck’, where he played Bryce Larkin.

Doom Patrol doesn’t yet have a UK premiere date. However, the show follows on from the ‘Titans’ series, which was recently picked up internationally by Netflix, so it would seem likely they will take this too. We’ll let you know when we hear more.
