There Is A ‘Jack Reacher’ TV Series In Development

We’ve had Jack Bauer and Jack Ryan, now it seems we may be getting ‘Jack Reacher’ on the small screen, as author Lee Childs reveals Skydance Television and Paramount Television have signed a deal to make his books into a tv series.

As many of you will know, Childs’ novel series has already been adapted for the big screen with Tom Cruise in the lead role. In an interview with the BBC, the author commented “I really enjoyed working with Cruise. He’s a really, really nice guy. We had a lot of fun,” but also commented on the discrepancy between the character in the books, and Cruise’s look on-screen. In the novel, Childs describes Reacher as 6ft 5in tall with hands the size of dinner plates. As Childs adds, “The idea is that when Reacher walks into a room, you’re all a little nervous just for that first minute. And Cruise, for all his talent, didn’t have that physicality.”

The author goes on to say that there will be no more movies with Cruise as Reacher. They are looking at a tv series with a new lead, and it would be someone more of the imposing physical presence Jack Reacher is supposed to be. “I want all those readers who were upset about Tom Cruise to help me out – participate in choosing the right actor for the TV series,” Childs continues. “We’re rebooting and starting over and we’re going to try and find the perfect guy.”

The first ‘Jack Reacher’ film was directed and adapted by Christopher McQuarrie in 2012, and had a mostly positive critical response, taking £167m at the box office. The 2016 follow-up movie, ‘Jack Reacher: Never Go Back’, had a less positive reaction, which may also have led to this change in direction.

There is currently no broadcaster attached to the ‘Jack Reacher’ tv series, but we’ll let you know when we hear more.
