Dougray Scott Cast As Kate Kane’s Father In ‘Batwoman’

‘Batwoman’ has cast Kate Kane’s father in the upcoming CW pilot, as Dougray Scott lands the role of Jacob Kane.

Armed with a passion for social justice and a flair for speaking her mind, Kate Kane (Ruby Rose) soars onto the streets of Gotham as Batwoman, an out lesbian and highly trained street fighter primed to snuff out the failing city’s criminal resurgence. But don’t call her a hero yet. In a city desperate for a saviour, Kate must overcome her own demons before embracing the call to be Gotham’s symbol of hope.

Scott takes on the role of Jacob, Kate’s dad, and one of her main adversaries. He is a former military colonel who commands Gotham’s private security firm The Crows, and has made it his mission to protect his city better than the Dark Knight ever could. But it’s only a matter of time before his unwavering disdain for vigilantes puts him at odds with Gotham’s new caped crusader… who also happens to be his own daughter…

This is a bit of a mix of old and new compared to the version of the character in the comic books. Often Jacob is an ally of Batwoman, providing backup and support. However, they often come to blows over the best way to police the city, and in more recent stories, he even used Batman as a model to create an army of “Batmen”, causing a rift between the father and daughter.

Scott himself is a very familiar face, having starred in films such as ‘Mission: Impossible II’, ‘Taken 3’ and ‘Deep Impact’, and tv shows such as ‘Fear The Walking Dead’, ‘Snatch’ and ‘Desperate Housewives’. He has also popped up in episodes of ‘Strike Back’ and ‘Doctor Who’.

Scott joins the previously announced cast of Ruby Rose (‘Orange Is The New Black’) as Kate Kane/Batwoman, Camrus Johnson (‘Luke Cage’) as Luke Fox/Batwing, Meagan Tandy (‘Teen Wolf’) as Kate’s ex-girlfriend, Sophie Moore, & Nicole Kang (‘YOU’) as Kate’s step-sister, Mary Hamilton. Rachel Skarsten (‘Lost Girl’, ‘Reign’) has also recently been added as villian Alice, leader of the Wonderland Gang.

‘Batwoman’ is still only a pilot at the moment, although we think has a pretty good chance of being picked up and joining the rest of the Arrowverse on The CW. We’ll let you know when we hear more.
