‘Teen Wolf’s Tyler Posey Leads Cast In CW’s ‘The Lost Boys’ Pilot. ‘Twilight’s Catherine Hardwicke To Direct.
‘Teen Wolf’ star Tyler Posey is trading werewolves for vampires, as The CW announces a host of casting for its upcoming pilot for ‘The Lost Boys’ tv series.
The drama is set in Santa Carla, California, a town with a beautiful boardwalk, all the cotton candy you can eat… and a secret underworld of vampires. After the sudden death of their father, Michael (Posey) and Sam Emerson move to Santa Carla with their mother Lucy (Kiele Sanchez), who hopes to start anew in the town where she grew up. But the brothers find themselves drawn deeper and deeper into the seductive world of Santa Carla’s eternally beautiful and youthful undead.
Posey is set to play Michael, the older brother, and the role played by Jason Patric in the original film. His intention was to attend Columbia Medical school, but his plans change when he discovers he shares the same genetic weakness that killed his father. The only thing that consoles him is the friendship he strikes up with Stella, a young woman who runs a concession stand on the Santa Carla boardwalk.
Lucy, the boy’s mother, will be played by Kiele Sanchez (‘Kingdom’, ‘Lost’), the role originated by Dianne Wiest in the movie. It would appear she left Santa Carla 27 years ago after causing a scandal when she ditched her boyfriend to run off with another man and has been dreading returning to face people.
Stella is not a character directly in the movie but based on Star, who was played by Jami Gertz. Medalion Rahimi (‘Still Star-Crossed’, ‘The Outpost’) takes the role in the pilot. Stella is Californian, carefree, and has an immediate spark with Michael… with the minor issue that she’s not single… and her boyfriend is a vampire…
That vampire boyfriend is the sexy, dangerous and immortal David, who is sometimes scary and always intense. He is the leader of a vampire gang and is wildly in love with Stella, who’s the only one who can control him. Dakota Shapiro (‘Valley of the Boom’) lands the part, which was originally played by Kiefer Sutherland in the film.
The CW has also announced Catherine Hardwicke is set to direct the pilot, because if you want someone that knows vampires, why not tap the person who directed the first ‘Twilight’ movie! Her other work includes the film ‘Red Riding Hood’, and episodes of ‘This Is Us’ and ‘Hell on Wheels’.
‘The Lost Boys’ adaptation comes from ‘Veronica Mars’ and ‘iZombie’ creator Rob Thomas and has been floating around since 2016. Thomas himself is now tied up at Hulu with a new ‘Veronica Mars’ series, so writer Heather Mitchell (‘Scandal’, ‘Grey’s Anatomy’) took a new pass at a script which led to the pilot order. At the moment, the potential series is only a pilot order, so may not make it on screen, however, it does seem to be shaping up nicely. We’ll let you know when we hear more.
