‘Batwoman’ Pilot Casts Camrus Johnson, Meagan Tandy & Nicole Kang In Key Roles

The CW’s upcoming ‘Batwoman’ pilot has begun casting for some of the people who will be joining Ruby Rose’s Kate Kane in the potential new Arrowverse show. Camrus Johnson is set to play Luke Fox, whilst Meagan Tandy takes the role of Sophie Moore & Nicole Kang will play Mary Hamilton.

Armed with a passion for social justice and a flair for speaking her mind, Kate Kane (Rose) soars onto the streets of Gotham as Batwoman, an out lesbian and highly trained street fighter primed to snuff out the failing city’s criminal resurgence. But don’t call her a hero yet. In a city desperate for a saviour, Kate must overcome her own demons before embracing the call to be Gotham’s symbol of hope.

Camrus Johnson will play Luke Fox, son of Wayne’s R&D director Lucius Fox and loyalist to Batman. Luke works to keep Wayne Tower secure in his boss’s absence. While Luke considers himself the guardian of all things Batman – specifically his symbol – he also recognizes the city’s need for a new hero… Those of you familiar with the comics will know, Luke Fox has an alter-ego of his own, as the hero Batwing. Johnson is no stranger to superheroes, having previously played a recurring role in Marvel’s ‘Luke Cage’.

Meagan Tandy is set to star as Sophie Moore, Kate’s ex-girlfriend from her days at the military academy. Having risen through the military rakes, Sophie is now a high-level private security agent and one of Gotham’s staunchest protectors. Despite her bite and regimented outlook, Sophie has a soft side, illuminated by Kate Kane’s return. Tandy has starred in a host of different shows, but is probably best known as Braeden in ‘Teen Wolf’ and Chantal in the wonderful ‘UnREAL’.

Nicole Kang takes the part of Mary Hamilton, Kates step-sister, although also her polar opposite. She is decribed as excitable, talkative, and an influencer-in-the-making. However, what Mary lacks in a filter, she makes up for with her compassion for Gotham’s underserved communities, proving she has more in common with Kate than she thinks. The character of Mary Hamilton doesn’t exist in the comic books, although, Kate does have a cousin, Mary Elizabeth Kane, who goes on to become the hero Flamebird. It’s possible this is one of Arrowverse’s occasional monkeying around with DC comicbook lore, but we’ll have to wait and see. Kang’s most notable role to date has been portraying Lynn on one of Greg Berlanti’s other hit shows, ‘YOU’.

The pilot will come from writer/producer Caroline Dries, who wrote the crossover episode this year which featured the character. Her previous work includes The Vampire Diaries’‘Melrose Place’ and ‘Smallville’. The CW has also tapped David Nutter to direct, who is the man that previously launched ‘Arrow’, ‘The Flash’ and is responsible for some very memorable episodes of a little show called ‘Game of Thrones’.

Dries & Nutter serve as exec producers along with Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter from Berlanti Productions and ex-DC Entertainment boss Geoff Johns via his new production company Mad Ghost Productions. As with all the Arrowverse shows, Berlanti Productions will produce alongside WBTV.

No news yet on exactly how ‘Batwoman’ will fit into the Arrowverse lineup, although it is said to be slated to join the other DC/CW shows in Autumn 2019, if it gets picked up. We’ll let you know when we hear more.
