Joshua Orpin Cast As Superboy On ‘Titans’ Season 2

Titans will get a bit more super when it returns for its 2nd Season, as Australian actor Joshua Orpin lands the role of Superboy!

The live-action drama follows a group of young soon-to-be superheroes recruited from every corner of the DC Universe by Dick Grayson (Brenton Thwaites), who is trying to emerge from the shadow of Batman. Superboy will join Starfire, Raven and Beast Boy to become one of the Titans.

Superboy’s comic book history is… complex… to say the least. The first Superboy appeared in 1945, and was simply Superman (aka Clark Kent) as a boy. The current comic book Superboy is Jonathan Kent, son of Clark Kent and Lois Lane (although, they are kinda from a different Earth, but I’m not going to get into all that here!) However, the version they are going with is the one that was hinted at in the end credit scene of Season 1 – Connor Kent, who first appeared in the comic books in 1993 as a clone of Superman following the ‘Death Of Superman’ story line. He was also a character in the much loved ‘Young Justice’ animated series.

The official show description has this version as the “angsty teenager of steel searching for purpose and the truth about his past. While looking for answers, he crashes into the world of the Titans where he finds an unlikely home and surrogate family as well as revelations that carry more complications than he ever bargained for.” Conner’s powers vary depending on whether its the comic book version or the ‘Young Justice’ version, but they are usually similar to Superman. In the books, he had a form of “tactile telekinesis” that allowed him to simulate most of Superman’s abilities. In the the animated show, he had Superman’s invulnerability and strength, but no flight or heat vision. We’ll have to wait an see what powers they give him on ‘Titans’.

Joshua Orpin is a relative newcomer. Despite being an Australian actor, he’s somehow avoided the traditional Aussie soaps, but has appeared in the TV movie ‘The Blake Mysteries: Ghost Stories’, the film ‘The Neon Spectrum’ and plays such as The Tempest and A Midsummer Night’s Dream for The Australian Shakespeare Company.

Titans‘ Season 1 can be streamed right now on Netflix UK.
