‘Star Trek: Discovery’ Renewed For Season 3. Michelle Paradise Joins As Co-Showrunner.

US streaming service CBS All Access want to discover more Star Trek, as they announce Star Trek: Discovery will return for a 3rd Season. Current showrunner Alex Kurtzman is also going to have some help with Season 3, as Michelle Paradise joins him behind the scenes.

The series follows the crew of the USS Discovery on their voyages to discover new worlds and new life forms. Season 2, which is currently airing on Netflix in the UK, begins after the crew answer a distress signal from the USS Enterprise, which leads to the Discovery joining forces with Captain Christopher Pike (Anson Mount) on a new mission to investigate seven mysterious red signals and the appearance of an unknown being called the Red Angel. While the crew must work together to unravel their meaning and origin, Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green) is forced to face her past with the return of her estranged brother, Spock.

Behind the cameras, current Discovery showrunner, and head of all things “Trek” for CBS, Alex Kurtzman, will share showrunning responsibilities next season with Michelle Paradise. “Michelle joined us midway through season two and energised the room with her ferocious knowledge of Trek,” Kurtzman commented. “Her grasp of character and story detail, her drive and her focus have already become essential in ensuring the Trek legacy, and her fresh perspective always keeps us looking forward. I’m proud to say Michelle and I are officially running Star Trek: Discovery.”

Prior to joining as co-executive producer on Discovery, Paradise was co-executive producer on the CW series ‘The Originals’. She also wrote for the series ‘Rogue’ for the Audience network and The CW’s ‘Hart of Dixie’. Additionally, she created, wrote and starred in the MTV/Logo series ‘Exes & Ohs’.

Kurtzman himself already has his hands full with a number of new Trek shows in development. There is the much talked about ‘Picard’ series, which will see Patrick Stewart don a Starfleet uniform once more. There is the animated comedy ‘Star Trek: Lower Decks’ which focuses on the support crew serving on one of Starfleet’s least important ships. They are also rumoured to be working on a ‘Section 31’ series starring Michelle Yeoh, working for the darker, “black ops” side of the federation, and another possible animated show for Nickelodeon.

Star Trek: Discovery‘ Season 2 is currently streaming on Netflix UK, with new episodes dropping each Friday.
