John Simm, Richard McCabe, Marquis Rodriguez, John Heffernan & Dixie Egerickx Join ‘Game Of Thrones’ Prequel
The ‘Game Of Thrones’ prequel has added 5 new cast members to the ensemble, as John Simm, Richard McCabe, Marquis Rodriguez, John Heffernan & Dixie Egerickx head to Westeros.
The currently untitled prequel pilot is being written by Jane Goldman (‘Kingsman’, ‘Kick-Ass’, ‘X-Men: First Class’) based on a story by Goldman and George R.R. Martin, with Goldman serving as showrunner. Set thousands of years before the events of ‘Game Of Thrones’, the drama chronicles the world’s descent from the Golden Age of Heroes into its darkest hour. Only one thing is for sure: From the horrifying secrets of Westeros’ history to the true origin of the white walkers, the mysteries of the East, to the Starks of legend… it’s not the story we think we know.
The most familiar name in the list is probably John Simm, Doctor Who’s ex-Master, and star of ‘Life On Mars’, ‘Collateral’, ‘Mad Dogs’ and a million other high-profile dramas. Richard McCabe will also be familiar to people who watched ‘Collateral’, and you may know him as Mr. Trencrom in ‘Poldark’. He has also starred in ‘Harlots’, ‘Wallander’, ‘Indian Summers’ and played Winston Churchill in ‘Peaky Blinders’. Marquis Rodriguez played Darryl in the last season of ‘Iron Fist’, but has popped up in ‘Chicago Fire’, ‘Manifest’, and ‘Blue Bloods’. John Heffernan appeared in ‘Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell’, ‘Dickensian’, ‘The Loch’, ‘Collateral’ (again!) and ‘Brexit: The Uncivil War’, and is currently filming a role in Mark Gatiss & Steven Moffat’s ‘Dracula’. Dixie Egerickx appeared in ‘Patrick Melrose’ and is currently filming Marc Munden’s adaptation of ‘The Secret Garden’.
These five join the previously announced cast of Naomi Watts (‘King Kong’, ‘Birdman’, ‘Mulholland Drive’), Ivanno Jeremiah (‘Humans’, ‘Cold Feet’), Josh Whitehouse (‘Poldark’), Naomi Ackie (‘The Five’, ‘Star Wars: Episode IX’), Denise Gough (‘Guerrilla’, ‘Stella’), Jamie Campbell Bower (‘Camelot’, ‘The Crimes of Grindelwald’), Sheila Atim (‘Harlots’), Georgie Henley (‘The Chronicles of Narnia’ franchise), Alex Sharp (‘To the Bone’), Toby Regbo (‘The Last Kingdom’, ‘Reign’) and Miranda Richardson (‘Curfew’, ‘Churchill’, ‘Black-Adder II’).
Due to this being ‘Game Of Thrones’, we don’t have any additional info on who anyone is playing yet. Behind the scenes, we know Goldman and Martin will exec produce alongside Vince Gerardis, Daniel Zelman, James Farrell, Jim Danger Gray, Sara Lee Hess and Chris Symes. As has been previously reported, ‘Game Of Thrones’ showrunners David Benioff and D. B. Weiss have no involvement with the prequels.
The ‘Game Of Thrones’ prequel is only a pilot at the moment, so it is technically possible it won’t go to series… although we find that rather unlikely, unless they really messed things up! We’ll let you know when we have more!
