Netflix Sets May Premiere Date & Releases “First Look” Images For Modern Lord Of The Flies Series ‘The Society’

Netflix has released a set of “First Look” images for The Society, a modern take on Lord of the Flies, which will premiere on the streaming service in May 2019.

‘The Society’ follows a group of teenagers who are mysteriously transported to a facsimile of their wealthy New England town without any trace of their parents. Their newfound freedom will be fun… but it will also be very dangerous. As they struggle to figure out what has happened to them and how to get home, they must establish order and form alliances if they want to survive.

The cast includes Kathryn Newton (‘Supernatural’) who plays Allie, a girl living in the shadow of her older sister, Cassandra, played by ‘Legion’ star Rachel Keller. Allie ultimately inspires her sister to take charge of the group and supports her during the ensuing confrontation, as the kids try to establish some sort of order.

The ensemble cast also includes Toby Wallace (‘Return to Nim’s Island’) and Sean Berdy (‘Switched At Birth’) as brothers Campbell & Sam; Alex Fitzalan (‘Slender Man’) as Harry, the town’s the wealthy, good-looking kid; Kristine Froseth (‘Apostle’) as Kelly, the popular girl in school; Jacques Colimon (‘Duat’) as orphan Will; Gideon Adlon (‘Blockers’) as Becca, who uses the camera to keep distance between her and the world; Olivia DeJonge (‘Better Watch Out’) as dancer, Elle; Alex MacNicoll (‘Transparent’) as Luke, the high school quarterback; Jose Julian (‘Shameless’) as Gordie, a tech nerd with a crush on Cassandra; Jack Mulhern as Grizz, the jock with a soft side; Grace Victoria Cox (‘Under the Dome’) as Lexie, the weird friend; Lastly, Natasha Liu Bordizzo (‘Crouching Tiger’) as Helena, and Salena Qureshi (‘Madam Secretary’) as Bean.

The series comes from Christopher Keyser, who is no stranger to shows where kids are without their parents, having created the hugely popular series ‘Party of Five’. He also wrote on FX series ‘Tyrant’ and Amazon show ‘The Last Tycoon’. In addition, Keyser is currently working on a ‘Party of Five’ reboot for Freeform, with the twist that it will follow five children in a Mexican-American family who are left to survive on their own after their parents are suddenly deported back to Mexico. Marc Webb, the man behind the camera for ‘The Amazing Spider-Man’ and ‘500 Days of Summer’, directs and exec produces alongside Keyser.

The Society‘ will premiere on Netflix UK and worldwide in May 2019 (exact date to be confirmed).
