ABC Picks Up Drama ‘For Life’ From Hank Steinberg/50 Cent & Comedy ‘United We Fall’

ABC has announced two new series pickups – Legal Drama For Life from ‘The Last Ship’ creator Hank Steinberg and 50 Cent, and family comedy United We Fall.

‘For Life’ stars Nicholas Pinnock (‘Counterpart’) and is inspired by the life of Isaac Wright, Jr. The story follows Aaron, a prisoner who becomes a lawyer, litigating cases for other inmates while fighting to overturn his own life sentence for a crime he didn’t commit. His quest for freedom is driven by his desperate desire to get back to the family he loves and reclaim the life that was stolen from him. The show will also, through the window of his ferocious struggle and complicated relationship with a progressive female prison warden, examine the flaws and challenges in the penal and legal systems.

Indira Varma (‘Game of Thrones’), Joy Bryant (‘Ballers’), Glenn Fleshler (‘Billions’), Dorian Missick (‘Luke Cage’), Tyla Harris (‘Six’), Mary Stuart Masterson (‘Blindspot’) and Boris McGiver (‘House of Cards’) also star.

‘United We Fall’ is a multi-cultural family sitcom that shows how, when two people with young children and overzealous extended families truly love each other, barely anything is possible. The series comes from ‘Making History’ creators Julius Sharpe and Seth Gordon.

Described as a “profoundly realistic family sitcom” the comedy follows the trials and tribulations of Jo (Christina Vidal – ‘Code Black’, ‘Sneaky Pete’) and Bill (Will Sasso – ‘Loudermilk’, ‘Family Guy’), parents of two young kids, as they try to make it day-to-day as a functioning family. Bill’s very judgmental live-in mother (Jane Curtin – ‘3rd Rock from the Sun’) and Jo’s large Latinx Catholic family will never hesitate to let our couple know they’re seemingly screwing up, but Bill and Jo will always have each other’s backs, united against everyone – other parents, teachers, doctors, specialists, coaches, co-workers, and especially their kids.

As they have only just been announced, its too early to know if or when they might land in the UK, but we’ll keep you up to date should we hear anything.
