First Trailer Arrives For ‘Downton Abbey’ The Film

by Dave Elliott

Focus Features today released the first trailer for the, much anticipated, ‘Downton Abbey’ movie, which will premiere in cinemas in September 2019.

The television series Downton Abbey followed the lives of the Crawley family and the servants who worked for them at the turn of the 20th century in an Edwardian English country house. The movie takes place in 1927, a year and a half after the series finale, and sees the Crawleys preparing for some very special visitors – King George V and Queen Mary. Clearly, the family are a little anxious that everything needs to be perfect, so that means turning to retired butler Carson for help. There is also talk of some characters leaving Downton for good…

The film stars Hugh Bonneville, Laura Carmichael, Jim Carter, Brendan Coyle, Michelle Dockery, Kevin Doyle, Joanne Froggatt, Matthew Goode, Harry Hadden-Paton, David Haig, Geraldine James, Robert James-Collier, Simon Jones, Allen Leech, Phyllis Logan, Elizabeth McGovern, Sophie McShera, Tuppence Middleton, Stephen Campbell Moore, Lesley Nicol, Kate Phillips, Maggie Smith, Imelda Staunton, and Penelope Wilton.

Over its 6 seasons, ‘Downton Abbey’ garnered 3 Golden Globe Awards, 15 Primetime Emmy Awards, 69 Emmy nominations in total, making Downton Abbey the most nominated non-US television show in the history of the Emmys – even earning a Special BAFTA award and a Guinness World Record for the highest critically rated TV show along the way.

‘Downton Abbey’ arrives in cinemas on Friday, 20th September 2019.
