The 3rd & Final Season Of ‘Lethal Weapon’ Gets July UK Premiere Date On ITV

Lethal Weapon returns to the UK for its 3rd and final season this July ITV has confirmed.

The third series sees the introduction of new character Wesley Cole played by Seann William Scott (‘American Pie’ movies), who replaces Riggs. Cole, a former international CIA operative who has been everywhere and seen everything. Cole finds himself navigating a new partnership with Murtaugh, as he adjusts to life in Los Angeles.

Murtaugh (Damon Wayans) continues to work a crime-ridden beat in modern-day Los Angeles and navigate his work life with his home life. His wife Trish (Keesha Sharp) and two children, Roger Jr and Riana, all return.

Also back for the new series are Captain Brooks Avery (Kevin Rahm), Scorsese (Johnathan Fernandez) and Detective Sonya Bailey (Michelle Mitchenor). Dr. Maureen ‘Mo’ Cahill (Jordana Brewster) is recurring.

It’s a sad end to, what was, a very promising tv adaptation, only to be brought down by egos, and some pretty awful handling behind the scenes of the cast and crew. ‘Lethal Weapon’ had been going through (much publicised) issues since firing the initial co-lead, Clayne Crawford, in May 2018. It was thought that might be the end, but FOX decided to renew for a shortened 3rd Season, bringing in Seann William Scott as new co-lead alongside Damon Wayans.

Then, in October last year, Wayans unexpectedly announced he wanted to quit the series, throwing another spanner in the works. He did reportedly change his mind after the production made some concessions, but it clearly wasn’t the easiest show to work on for all involved. In May this year, FOX finally decided to walk away, after the ratings for the series had not been great for the 3rd Season.

Lethal Weapon‘ Season 3 premieres Friday, 26th July 2019 at 9pm on ITV in the UK.
