‘Grantchester’ Renewed For Season 5

ITV has renewed Grantchesterfor a 5th Season it has been announced, which will see Tom Brittney (‘The Five’, ‘Outlander’) return as the parish priest Will Davenport, alongside Robson Green as DI Geordie Keating, the other half of the unlikely 1950s crime-fighting duo.

“We are very excited that Grantchester is returning for a fifth series,” commented Emma Kingsman-Lloyd, Exec Producer for Kudos, who make the series. “The audience has taken the pairing of Robson Green and Tom Brittney to their hearts and we are delighted to be able to continue the story of Geordie and Will with Masterpiece [in the US] and ITV.”

The 4th season saw Geordie’s original partner, the jazz-loving clergyman Sidney Chambers played by James Norton, leave the show to cross the Atlantic to be with an American girl after a whirlwind romance.

Season 5 picks up in Cambridge in 1957, a year after the current fourth season in which Prime Minister Harold MacMillan told the British people that they had “never had it so good.” For many of the residents of Grantchester, it really will feel like they’re in a delightful new Eden, but for all the talk of paradise on earth and faith-in-action, Geordie knows that trouble is never far away…

Grantchester‘ Season 5 will begin shooting this summer in Cambridgeshire, with a view to broadcast on ITV in 2020. PBS Masterpiece carries the series in the USA, with Season 4 due to air July 14, 2019.
