Amazon Prime Sets October UK Premiere Date For DC Universe ‘Swamp Thing’ Series

by Dave Elliott

Amazon Prime UK has picked up the “one and done” DC Universe Swamp Thing series the streaming service has announced today, setting a premiere date of Friday, 4th October 2019.

‘Swamp Thing’ follows CDC researcher Abby Arcane (Crystal Reed – ‘Gotham’, ‘Teen Wolf’) who returns to her childhood home of Houma, Louisiana, in order to investigate a deadly swamp-borne virus. There, she develops a surprising bond with scientist Alec Holland (Andy Bean – ‘Here and Now’, ‘Power’) only to have him tragically taken from her, but as powerful forces descend on Houma, intent on exploiting the swamp’s mysterious properties for their own purposes, Abby will discover that the swamp holds mystical secrets, both horrifying and wondrous – and the potential love of her life may not be dead after all, as Holland emerges as the elemental hero known as Swamp Thing (Derek Mears – ‘Sleepy Hollow’, ‘Friday the 13th’).

The cast also included Ian Ziering (‘Sharknado’), Kevin Durand (‘The Strain’), Will Patton (‘Falling Skies’), Jeryl Prescott (‘Ray Donovan’), Jennifer Beals (‘The L Word’) and Virginia Madsen.

Despite fairly positive reviews, DC Universe decided to cancel the series, with the news leaking out just after the first episode aired. It is still not entirely clear why the show was dropped, with issues from having to pay millions to store the sets, to DC not having confidence in the series, to the old “creative differences” problem being blamed.

The single 10-episode season of DC’s ‘Swamp Thing‘ premieres Friday, 4th October 2019.
