One of the most popular anime of all times is Dragon Ball Z. Based on the Dragon Ball Z manga with 519 chapters, the anime of Goku and his challenges generated a lot of videogames products. Since the first game, Dragon Power for the NES console, to the recent Dragon Ball Kakarot for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Microsoft Windows PC, Goku fights against enemies using all the video game platforms of the market.

Dragon Ball Z, The manga and the anime

Dragon Ball is a japanese manga published from 1984 to 1995, and collected into 42 individuals books. The manga follows the legend of Goku, starting from his childhood, going through all his life. Goku battles along the saga with an extensive variety of enemies from all the universe, increasing his power and martial art skills.

Dragon Ball animes achieved more success than the manga did, and boosted the anime popularity in western countries. The adventures of Son Goku, his family and friends are now popular, and merchandising as posters, t-shirts, etc., can be found all over the world.

Akira Toriyama is the Dragon Ball creator. His skills as a manga artist and character designer are prised worldwide. Games like Chrono Trigger, Blue Dragon and Dragon Quest include characters designed by Akira Toriyama himself.

The only Dragon Ball fight videogame for the Sega Genesis console has the option of choosing differents characters as Son Goku, Piccolo, Vegeta, Cell, Krilin, Ginyu, Freezer, Recoome, etc. The game has 9 scenarios where the characters can fight in air or at land.

On this Genesis game there are two exclusive characters, Ginyu and Recoome (both from Frieza special forces).

Dragon Ball Z: Budokai 3

This game was the third part of Budokai Dragon Ball videogames. The Sony Playstation 2 game includes one of the best stories from all Dragon Ball games. Graphics and combat system fits with the anime style, turning it, in probably the best Dragon Ball Z video game until its launch.

In 2019, Dragon Ball: Budokai 3 is still considered one of the best videogames of the saga.

Dragon Ball Z: Super Butoden 2

This Dragon Ball videogame for the Super Nintendo, features 10 playable characters, covering the Cell Games Saga. On this DB game, if a character wins or loses a battle, the story changes, opening the game to a lot of possibilities to experience.

Dragon Ball Z: The Legacy of Goku II

This is a fantastic action rpg video game for the Nintendo Game Boy Advanced, based on the Dragon Ball saga. This game introduced new concepts as transformations and charge melee attacks, and allows players to improve his stats with capsules. Despite game?s title, you can play with Goku and also Piccolo, Vegeta and Trunks.

With new video games consoles and graphic technologies, the current Dragon Ball games are awesome, but playing these retro DB titles, could take you to the anime saga style and atmosphere. There are more than 150 titles based on Dragon Ball saga since 1986, so if you like video games and are a DB fan, you are lucky to have a lot of hours to play with Goku and friends.
