Netflix Sets December Premiere Date & Reveals Key Art For Psychological Thriller ‘YOU’ Season 2

Netflix is working hard to get you to not move from your telly box this Christmas, as they announce another December premiere date, this time for Season 2 of the psychological thriller YOU, which will air on Boxing Day.

Based on Caroline Kepnes’ best-selling novel of the same name, ‘YOU’ is a 21st-century love story about an obsessive, yet brilliant twentysomething who uses the hyper-connectivity of today’s technology to make the woman of his dreams fall in love with him.

Season 1 saw brilliant bookstore manager Joe (Penn Badgley – ‘Gossip Girl’) cross paths with “Beck” (Elizabeth Lail  – ‘Once Upon a Time’) an aspiring writer. Using the internet and social media as his tools to gather the most intimate of details and get close to her, a charming and awkward crush quickly becomes an obsession as he quietly and strategically removes every obstacle – and person – in his way…

As we head into Season 2, Joe has his sights set on a new obsession – mainly due to his old one Beck being… shall we say “unavailable”… after the events of Season 1. The person who as caught the bookstore manager’s eye this year is Love Quinn, played by Victoria Pedretti (‘Haunting Of Hill House’).

Love is an aspiring chef working as a produce manager in a high-end grocery store and is uninterested in the world of social media, branding and self-promotion, focused instead on leading an interesting life. She is also tending to a deep grief – and when she meets Joe, she senses a shared knowledge of profound, life-changing loss.

‘YOU’ comes from Greg Berlanti (DC/CW shows, ‘Riverdale’) and Sera Gamble (‘The Magicians’, ‘Aquarius’, ‘Supernatural’) who serve as writers and exec producers. the series was an original production by US network Lifetime, however, they have decided to drop out to focus more on their movie programming. Netflix has always been the broadcaster for the drama internationally and has decided to continue the series on their own. The change won’t affect UK audiences, but US fans will now need to be on the streaming service to watch Season 2.

This marks the third big Netflix show the streaming service will launch over the festive period. Fantasy drama ‘The Witcher’ is set to premiere on Friday, 20th December 2019 with Season 2 of scifi ‘Lost In Space’ launching on Christmas Eve.

YOU‘ Season 2 premieres Thursday, 26th December 2019 (Boxing Day) on Netflix UK and worldwide.
