Amazon Prime Sets December UK Premiere Date For ‘New Amsterdam’ Season 2

by Dave Elliott

Amazon Prime has set a December UK premiere date for part one of brilliant medical drama New Amsterdam Season 2 the streaming service announced today.

Inspired by the oldest public hospital in America, this unique medical drama stars Ryan Eggold (‘The Blacklist’) as the brilliant and charming Dr. Max Goodwin, the institution’s newest medical director, who sets out to tear up the bureaucracy and provide exceptional care. How can he help? Well, the doctors and staff have heard this before. Not taking “no” for an answer, Dr. Goodwin must disrupt the status quo and prove he will stop at nothing to breathe new life into this understaffed, underfunded and underappreciated hospital – the only one in the world capable of treating Ebola patients, prisoners from Rikers and the president of the United States under one roof – and return it to the glory that put it on the map.

The series also stars Janet Montgomery (‘The Romanoffs’) as Dr. Lauren Bloom, Freema Agyeman (‘Doctor Who’) as Dr. Helen Sharpe, Jocko Sims (‘Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan’) as Dr. Floyd Reynolds, Anupam Kher (‘Silver Linings Playbook’) as Dr. Vijay Kapoor, Tyler Labine (‘StartUp’) as Dr. Iggy Frome and Lisa O’Hare as Max’s wife, Georgia Goodwin.

The end of Season 1 left our beloved doctors in a very precarious cliffhanger (SEASON 1 FINALE SPOILER WARNING!). Max, Georgia, Luna, Dr. Sharpe, and Dr. Bloom were heading into the hospital following the difficult birth of Max & Georgia’s daughter Luna. Whilst on the journey, another ambulance, driven by a man who had escaped police custody from the hospital, crashes into their vehicle, leaving a devastating scene. In the final moments, we see Max holding Luna, along with Dr. Kapoor, Dr. Bloom and Georgia, who all seem to have survived. However, an unknown body is being covered with a sheet…

As we head into Season 2, Max struggles with the aftermath of the accident and the birth of his daughter. Meanwhile, Dr. Kapoor will deal with stereotypes associated with ageing.

Earlier this year, we sat down with Ryan Eggold, Freema Agyeman & Janet Montgomery to discuss their journey through Season 1, and what to expect from Season 2. You can read that interview here.

New Amsterdam‘ Season 2, part 1, which consists of the first 9 episodes, premieres Monday, 9th December 2019 on Amazon Prime UK.
