ITV Sets January 2020 Premiere Date For ‘Grantchester’ Season 5

ITV has set a January premiere date for Grantchester‘ Season 5, which sees Robson Green and Tom Brittney as the unlikely 1950s crime-fighting duo.

The 4th season saw DI Geordie Keating’s (Robson Green) original partner, the jazz-loving clergyman Sidney Chambers played by James Norton, leave the show to cross the Atlantic to be with an American girl after a whirlwind romance. This resulted in him being joined by young, new parish priest Will Davenport (Tom Brittney) as his replacement crime-fighting partner.

Season 5 picks up in Cambridge in 1957, a year after the current fourth season in which Prime Minister Harold MacMillan told the British people that they had “never had it so good.” For many of the residents of Grantchester, it really will feel like they’re in a delightful new Eden, but for all the talk of paradise on earth and faith-in-action, Geordie knows that trouble is never far away…

The series is Executive Produced for Kudos by Emma Kingsman-Lloyd and by writer/creator Daisy Coulam. The Executive Producer for Masterpiece is Rebecca Eaton at WGBH Boston. Series 5 is produced by Richard Cookson and directed by Gordon Anderson, Christiana Ebohon-Green and Rob Evans. Adapted from the Grantchester Mysteries novels by James Runcie, the series was developed for television by Daisy Coulam and written by Daisy Coulam and John Jackson, Carey Andrews, Jake Riddell and Joshua St Johnston.

Grantchester‘ Season 5 premieres Friday, 10th January 2020 at 9pm on ITV. PBS Masterpiece air the drama in the USA.
