Sky Atlantic & HBO Announce March 2020 Premiere Date For ‘Westworld’ Season 3

by Dave Elliott

The long-awaited return to Westworld is nearly over, as HBO and Sky Atlantic announce Season 3 of the sci-fi drama will premiere March 15th, 2020 on the US network and simulcast Monday, 16th March 2020 at 2am in the UK.

The first season of the show was set in a futuristic theme park staffed by artificial beings, where guests of ‘Westworld’ can live out their wildest fantasies. However, when the robots began to run amok, and the guests found themselves in a place where anything can happen.

*SEASON 2 SPOILERS* In the 2nd Season, the park was in full revolt as the hosts started to fight back. That resulted in a number of our synthetic hosts escaping the confines of the park and into the “real world”, which is where we find ourselves in Season 3. However, not all the hosts have left the parks. We know from previous trailers that Thandie Newton’s Maeve, along with fellow host Hector (Rodrigo Santoro), find themselves moving from Wild West to somewhere which appears to be a WWII theme park… which begs the question “why would someone build a WWII theme park?!”

We do know Season 3 features a set of new characters, including Breaking Bad’s Aaron Paul, who plays construction worker, Caleb, and it would seem from this previous trailer, his character is something of a grifter, that gets involved with Evan Rachel Wood’s Dolores. Other new cast includes Lena Waithe (‘Master of None’), Vincent Cassel (‘Jason Bourne’), Scott Mescudi (‘How to Make It in America’), John Gallagher Jr. (‘The Newsroom’), Michael Ealy (‘Almost Human’), and Tommy Flanagan (‘Sons of Anarchy’).

Created for television by Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy, and based on the film written by Michael Crichton, Westworld is a dark odyssey about the dawn of artificial consciousness and the birth of a new form of life on Earth. The theme for this new season is “New World” and Nolan comments: “Dystopia can look pretty beautiful in the world. Just because the world is corrupt inside, doesn’t mean it can’t be smothered over and pretty. We wanted to find a version of dystopia that we hadn’t seen before.”

Returning cast includes Evan Rachel Wood, Thandie Newton, Ed Harris, Jeffrey Wright, Tessa Thompson, Luke Hemsworth, Simon Quarterman and Rodrigo Santoro.

Westworld‘ Season 3 to premieres in simulcast with the US on Monday, 16th March 2020 at 2am On Sky Atlantic & NOW TV in the UK. The series broadcasts March 15th, 2020 on HBO in the USA.
