HBO Renews ‘Westworld’ For Season 4

In news that probably doesn’t come as a huge surprise, HBO has renewed Westworld for a 4th Season the broadcaster announced today.

The first season of the show was set in a futuristic theme park staffed by artificial beings, where guests of ‘Westworld’ can live out their wildest fantasies. However, the guests discover “these violent delights have violent ends”, as the “hosts” began to run amok, and the human visitors find themselves in a place where anything can happen.

In the 2nd Season, the park was in full revolt as the hosts started to fight back, which resulted in a number of our synthetic friends escaping the confines of the park and into the “real world”. The 3rd Season picks up the story with lead revolutionary host Dolores (Evan Rachel Wood) arriving in a futuristic neo-Los Angeles. It is here she meets Caleb (Aaron Paul) and discovers that the outside world places a similar low value on the lives of the working class as it does on artificial beings.

“From the western theme park to the technocratic metropolis of the near future, we’ve thoroughly enjoyed every twist and turn from the minds of master storytellers Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy,” comments Casey Bloys, president, HBO Programming. “We can’t wait to see where their inspired vision takes us next.”

Alongside Wood and Paul, the series stars Jeffrey Wright as Bernard, Tessa Thompson as Charlotte, and Luke Hemsworth as Stubbs. Season 3, which is currently airing on HBO in the US and Sky Atlantic in the UK, also added Vincent Cassel (‘Jason Bourne’, ‘Black Swan’), Lena Waithe (Master of None), Scott Mescudi (Need for Speed), Marshawn Lynch, John Gallagher, Jr. (10 Cloverfield Lane), Michael Ealy (2 Fast 2 Furious) and Tommy Flanagan (Gladiator).

Described as “a dark odyssey about the dawn of artificial consciousness and the question of free will”, the show was created for television by Jonathan Nolan & Lisa Joy. Nolan directed the season’s premiere episode, which has surpassed nine million viewers across all platforms in the USA. Nolan & Joy executive producers with Denise Thé, J.J. Abrams, Athena Wickham, Richard J. Lewis, and Ben Stephenson. The series is produced by Kilter Films and Bad Robot Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television, and is based on the film written by Michael Crichton.

Westworld‘ Season 3 is currently airing on Sky Atlantic in the UK and HBO in the USA.
