Ricky Gervais’ Utterly Brilliant ‘After Life’ Renewed For Season 3 On Netflix

Ricky Gervais’ fabulous Netflix dark-comedy After Life has been renewed for a 3rd (and probably final) Season it has announced.

Set in the small fictitious town of Tambury, the comedy-drama series follows Tony (Gervais), a writer for the local newspaper whose life is upended after his wife dies from cancer. In Season 1, Tony contemplated taking his own life, he decided instead to live long enough to punish the world by saying and doing whatever he likes from now on – not caring about himself or anyone else – but it turned out to be tricky when everyone is trying to save the nice guy they used to know.

Season 2, which recently launched on the streaming service, follows Tony, who is still struggling with immense grief for his wife, but trying to become a better friend to those around him. Each grappling with their own problems and only to be intensified by the looming threat of the local newspaper being shut down. Will the town’s local Am-Dram show lift everyone’s spirits?

Alongside Gervais, the series stars Penelope Wilton (‘Downton Abbey’, ‘Doctor Who’), David Bradley (‘The Harry Potter series’, ‘Game of Thrones’), Ashley Jensen (‘Extras’), Tom Basden (‘Plebs’, ‘David Brent: Life On The Road’), Tony Way (‘Edge of Tomorrow’), David Earl (‘Cemetery Junction’, ‘Derek’), Joe Wilkinson (‘Him and Her’), Kerry Godliman (‘Derek’), Tracy-Ann Oberman (‘Eastenders’), Mandeep Dhillon, Jo Hartley, Roisin Conaty and Diane Morgan (‘David Brent: Life On The Road’). They are also joined by Peter Egan (‘Downton Abbey’), Ethan Lawrence (‘Bad Education’) and Bill Ward (‘Coronation Street’, ‘Emmerdale’).

This marks a first for Ricky, as he has never done a 3rd Season for one of his shows before. On a live stream today, he did say “I promise, this is the last one.” He went on to joke that he may have an asteroid take out Tambury at the end of the season so Netflix can’t convince him to do another one! He also thanked fans and commented that the second season has been watched at a faster rate than the first season, as people binged their way through the comedy during the lockdown.

After Life‘ Seasons 1 and 2 are available on Netflix around the world right now, and we urge you to go and watch!
